new quad idea
#1
Hi, i'm completely new to pfv (but i have SOME los flying skills)
so i was wondering if i got a good setup based on this blog.
here are my parts (yes, i want to built it myself):

Quadcopter
frame: arris x-speed = $55 161g
flight controller: Betaflight F3 = $43 8.6g
(FPVModel, has build-in OSD,PDB)
4*motors: Cobra 2204 (1960kv) = $21 23g
props: kingkong props = +-$0.6/set
4*ESC: HK Blue Series      12A (16A) = $8 10g
battery: ZIPPY Flightmax 2200mAh 3S1P 40C
= $14.5 226g

FPV setup
camera: Runcam Swift (ir-sensitive) = $40 13g
vTX: TBS Unify Pro Race = $30 5g
antenna (TX only): Emax 5.8Ghz Cloverleaf = $24

fpv goggles: Eachine VR D2 (built-in RX) = $70
controller: ?

Yes, the battery might be overkill (i want to fly for a long time, but it can allways change), and i may considder changing to 2300kv motors.
if you have any suggestions that i have to add (like filters), change (or maybe even remove) something?
pls review my setup Smile.

I'd bump up to 20A esc. When I first started I had 12amp esc and burned up 2 motors and esc before i changed to 20 amp.

Believe it or not your flight time won't improve much with that 2200 battery. You'll get about the same with a 1300.

With the low kV motors, the large 3s lipo, it will fly poorly, imho. You will have a heavy quadcopter with poor power.

If you are stuck with those motors, you should go with 4S and a smaller battery (1500mah max).

Ideally, you should get 2300kV motors and use lighter batteries (and later get some 4S for really good performance).

(and yeah, what ryan said)

ok so i changed the following:
motors: cobra 2204 (2300kv) = $21 25g
ESC: Racerstar RS20A 20A (25A) = $11 5.7g
battery: ZIPPY Flightmax 1500mAh 3S1P 20C= $10 167g

(and do you guy's maybe also have a suggestion for a good but cheap Radio?)

The C rating of your battery is too low.

With only 20C and a capacity of 1500mA/h, your maximum current is 30A, or 7.5A per motor. That simply isn't enough. 40C would give you better performance.

If you mean "radio" when you say "controller", get a FrSky Q X7, or if that's too expensive, get a FlySky FS-I6S.

You didn't specify the props, what size/pitch do you plan to use? Those can make a big difference with these older weaker 2204 motors (2205 or 2206 became pretty much the norm nowadays).

You can also look into the Turnigy Evolution for you Radio. It's gets good reviews for what it is.

if you're looking to cut costs you might want a cheaper FC

I am using this one https://www.banggood.com/Betaflight-F4-F...ds=myorder

also, lately several of us have been working on builds that were inspired by UAVFutures' $99 build

Good luck! and show us the build as you do it Smile build threads are lots of fun around here.
It may be helpful when figuring out what you want to do.

Also about the Arris frame, my Uncle has one, there arms alone have a ton of hardware to assemble and is somewhat heavy too. Especially if you plan to use the 2204 motors and 3s, I might suggest a lighter frame. Weight is probably going to be a place you want to focus for increasing flight times compared to battery capacity. Also something with quick and easily replaceable arms (4mm is super tough usually) for less downtime should.... when Wink a hard crash happens.

Keep with an efficient prop as well. Efficiency is not necessarily in my build theory Wink but a 2 blade option would probably save weight and add to your flight times. I'm sure someone can add to this for me Tongue

Looking forward to your updated list!

There are a lot of build logs here to check out for references too. Maybe try a search for "build log" and see where it takes ya Wink Good luck and we are always here to help or answer any questions.

so i got another list.
i'll probebly stick to this one (couse i got a budget of €250 and i went over a lot last time).
here it is:
frame: Lisam LS-210 = €14.10
ESC: Racerstar RS20Ax4 = €21.15
motors: Racerstar Racing Edition 2205 2300KV = €25.08 (full set)
PDB: Matek Systems PDB-XT60 = €6.16
VTX: Eachine VTX03 Super Mini 5.8G 72CH = €10.57 (antenna incl.)
FC: Omnibus Betaflight F4 = €21.59 (int. OSD)
camera: Eachine 1000TVL 1/3 CCD = €13.22
props: Racerstar FishBone 5041 3 Blade Racing = €8.19 (10 sets)
battery: XF Power 11.1V 1500MAH 3S 60C = €15.94
radio: FlySky FS-i6 (With FS-iA6B Receiver) = €38.79
goggles: JJPRO F01 = €69.64
charger: Charsoon 2-4S Li-poly Battery Charger = €10.57

total of €258.45 (bit over budget but acceptable)
so if you guy's got any better but cheaper options, or if i forgot something.
let me know Smile

If it is your intention to build something ridiculously fast and powerful, you'll certainly get that with 2600kv motors and aggressive 5" triblade props! It will also murder your battery if you do much full throttle stuff as it will probably be asked to deliver over 100 Amps at the start of a full throttle move.

Personally, I'd go for the 2300kv version.

yhea i realized it to late.
i'll change the list soon couse there are some other things i'm going to change.
