Hey there folks! My name is Danny. I live in ABQ New Mexico.I have zero knowledge of...well pretty much anything R/C. With my limited experience in R/C stuff, aside from being kid with my Tyco R/C's. Remote planes and cars have always fascinated me, be it gas or battery. I NEED A NEW HOBBY!! I have seen videos of these cinematic free style fpv drones, and well I'm hooked! I have yet to get a drone or a fpv set up...I'm hesitant. I would like a good build, though $1.3-1,500 for the digital dji buy and bind I have discovered is a bit of a jump. Needless to say I'm feeling pretty interested and dedicated to the sport. For the time being i figure I'll research some more till ive saved up enough to dive in. In the mean time i wouldn't mind meeting up with any folks or groups in the area that like to get down and fly, I would really like to learn first hand.

Welcome to the forum, Danny!  A good way to get started relatively inexpensively is to start on a simulator.  Liftoff and Velocidrone are two good choices   These are relatively "low-cost", but there are others that are even free (I haven't tried those so can't recommend.)

For the best experience, you should fly on a simulator using a "real transmitter".  So I would start researching those first, because you will need one regardless of whatever drone you decide to build.  Lots of good information here on the site regarding transmitters and sims.  Take a look and always feel free to ask questions.

Welcome Smile    Get prepared to be ADDICTED. This is the most addictive hobby that I have had since golf.

There are a lot of options ranging from inexpensive combo packs and BNF (Bind N Fly) to a full on build of what ever you want; Oh yeah, and the simulators. Once you have a good radio transmitter, you will be ready to go. I started (about a year and a half ago) with the tiny whoops which I still fly indoors when I can't get to a fly field. These little things are just a blast, but they are small and more suited to indoor flying. Now, I fly mostly 2.5 to 3 inch quads; these are cost effective yet very flyable...stable, horizon, and acro modes for what ever your preference. They won't break the bank, yet provide an excellent flying experience. In this range, one of my favorite quads is the GEPRC Phantom. For $140 (BNF), you get something that is durable and flies well. I have flown this one the most. I also have an XBot 3 ($140) which is pretty good, but I don't have much fly time on it yet due to coronavirus. There are plenty of choices out there; just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

The radio transmitter is one of (if not the) most important items. I have a Jumper T16 which I really like. Mine is original (not updated) so it is getting a little dated, but still a good transmitter. If I were in need of a new one, I would be looking at one of these two: RadioMaster TX16S or the new Jumper T18 with Crossfire module. At this point, the RadioMaster seems to be the best value on the market. On the other hand, you can get the Jumper T18 with a long range module. Question is....total cost of RadioMaster plus the cost of a long range module vs cost of the Jumper T18 with long range module included.
