New GEPRC Smart 35 fell out from the sky without any apparent reason
#1
Recently I bought GEPRC Smart35 Analog with TBS Crossfire Nano RX.
The first day I had the drone I flew 1 pack only for testing - everything was perfectly well.
The second day in the morning I flew 3 packs - everything was perfectly well.
The same day in the evening after a short while of flying the drone suddenly lost control in the air, started to spin and crash into the ground.
I was flying in "Angle Mode".
Something wrong happened with the drone, maybe it lost communication with the transmitter and started to do things on its own or maybe ESC of some motors burned out and that caused the drone to spin or something else. Sure it was some technical problem with the drone and not my fault in any way.

The damage to the drone - one arm of the drone is broken completely, props are broken and more important when I arm the drone two rear motors twitch (one of them is on the broken arm). I think that is an indication that the ESCs on the FC do not work properly.

Unfortunately it only took 4 packs before the drone failed to operate and fell down from the sky. I am very disappointed and frustrated.

One point to underscore - before that flight, when I connected the battery and turned on my transmitter, I noticed that there was no connection between the drone and the transmitter. There was no light on the LED Status Indicator at all (should be green if connected). I just disconnected the battery, turned off the transmitter. After that, I connected everything again and the drone did connect OK.
I didn't pay much attention to it, I thought maybe it was some fluke. Could it be an indication of something?
It is my first drone I use Crossfire and I don't know if it is normal not to connect from the first time. I don't remember what I did first, turned on the transmitter or plugged the battery if it matters.

I had the blackbox log. Unfortunately I cannot find my flight in this log. It should be the last one. But it is definitely not.

What could it be?

Being an Analog quad did you have OSD warnings turned on? Did is say RXLOSS?

If yes then it was a failsafe that caused the crash but this should cut power to the motors and apart from a broken arm the ESC’s should not have suffered any damage.

But reading through your recollection of what happened and the current state of your ESC, I will be inclined to think your ESC caused the crash. Maybe it was a short onboard or just bad luck.

The twitching motors are a strong indication of damaged MOSFETs on the ESC.

Have you taken the quad apart to inspect the ESC? Any burn makes or destroyed components? Does the board smell bad?

Following along, I have a smart 35HD and so far its been rock solid (aside from issues that were self inflicted, opps).

What to say? Good for you. I had no such luck.

However, 4 times I managed to fly it - was fun, real good flying characteristics

No OSD warnings.
No smell
I didn't exam ESC thoroughly (I should take all apart, but I have reached an agreement with Banggood to return the drone and get full refund)

It sucks but it's the nature of this hobby. I've had a handful of drones fly MANY packs without any major components damage despite plenty of crashes until now where I've had an ESC fail on one that only has about 20-25 packs on it. It didn't even fail on a crash but rather on takeoff where the quad flipped over on takeoff like I had a prop on wrong.

As for the radio issue you had I have that happen in about 5% of my takeoffs and I'm on TBS Tracer. My workaround is to flip to another model on the radio and switch it right back and it's good after that. It's so rare I forget about it until it happens or when I read your post.

Regardless of chip shortages and rampant inflation this isn't a cheap hobby and it requires spare parts and or spare quads to stay in the air.

Fiddle with it no further. Get the refund ASAP for BG.
