New Achilles Plus Firmware Update - v2.10
#1
For those who are still running the old Eachine Pro58 or the Realacc RX5808 standard diversity modules on their goggles, a new v2.10 Achilles firmware update has recently been released.

NOTE: The latest firmware for the AKK module that is compatible with the Achilles firmware still appears to be the older v1.93 version. This is likely based on the v1.92 version listed in the release note below with a few tweaks to make it work with the AKK hardware.

This newest v2.10 firmware contains a "Menu UI Slider" which I've yet to find out what that actually is, plus some bug fixes.

NOTE: Users of the Eachine Pro58 and AKK modules be aware that the newest versions of these seem to be coming with an old STM32 F1 revision "2" MCU instead of the newer revision "X" MCU. The Achilles firmware only supports the revision "X" MCU, so you need to check the MCU type before flashing.

The downloadable firmware files are at the following link:-

For people who are running Achilles firmware on the Realacc RX5808 module like me which has a built in USB socket for upgrading the firmware, just follow the instructions below. For those running Achilles firmware on the Eachine Pro58 or the AKK module, the process is a bit more involved and requires soldering on some wires and the use of an ST-Link device (see upgrade instructions for the Pro58 HERE).

Instructions for upgrading the Realacc RX5808 module using Betaflight Configurator as a firmware flashing tool:-
  1. Remove the module from your goggles.
  2. Hold the boot button in on the RX5808 module and plug in a USB cable which is connected to a computer at the other end. The screen on the RX5808 module will remain blank when in boot mode.
  3. Run Betaflight Configurator and go the "Firmware Flasher" tab on the left.
  4. Ensure that the "No reboot sequence" option is enabled.
  5. Ensure that the "Full chip erase" option is enabled.
  6. Ensure that the "Manual baud rate" option is enabled and set the baud rate value to 115200.
  7. Click on the "Load Firmware [Local]" button in the bottom right to browse and load the required Achilles firmware file.
  8. Click on the "Flash Firmware" button.
  9. On newer versions of Betaflight the firmware verification part of the flashing will fail. Just ignore that and recycle the power manually by unplugging and re-plugging the USB cable without holding down the boot button. The module should then come to life with the new firmware version number shown on the boot-up splash screen.
  10. Remove the USB cable and refit the module back into your goggles.

Thanks for the info/image on the chip version.

Just wondering do you know where the chip is.... is it in the 'middle' between the two layers ?

Unfortunately yes. Which means you have to desolder the pin header that joins the two boards together, and that isn't a particularly easy task.

Haha; as feared - thanks for confirming.

Do I bother.... or do i find out by flashing and see if it works or bricks. Decisions decisions.  Thinking

When I download the ZIP file for the AKK module it contains a file called ACHILLES_AKK_V_1_93.hex and not 2.10? Is this still the old version?

Yes, it appears that the firmware for the AKK module was never updated to v2.10. All you actually lose is the UI Menu Slider and whatever minor bug fixes were applied for that version. Maybe none of those were needed or relevant to the AKK module.

I've now amended the first post to avoid any confusion for AKK users.

Information

You can see the chip version in the upper right of the ST-Link utility next to Revision ID. I purchased 3 modules in December 2020, and all three are X versions. Just upgraded to 2.10 on two just to test. Reflashed one back to Pirc 2.0 afterwards, though.

That's good to know. Thanks for posting. This would save people from having to strip down their modules to check what MCU they have on their module board. Obviously an ST-Link V2 device would be needed for that but the clones of those are only a few dollars and it's something definitely worth having in your toolbox.

BTW, your image didn't show up. If you are having trouble then see another post HERE for how to upload pictures. If posting on a mobile you will need to change to the desktop view of the forum by clicking the "Switch to Full Version" link right at the bottom of the page. EDIT: The missing image how now been added to the previous post.

I'm not really sure what you mean by (1). If you go to the download page HERE and click on the "Akk achilles" link is downloads an ACHILLES_AKK_STM32.zip file. In that ZIP file is a "ACHILLES_AKK_V_1_93.hex" file which is the firmware file you need to flash to your AKK module.

Instructions for flashing a module with no USB socket requires use of an ST-Link device. Instruction for flashing the firmware using that method is HERE. IMPORTANT: Before you do that, check to make sure that the MCU on your AKK module is a revision "X" F1 MCU (model number CKS32F103T8U6). If the MCU is not that revision then you risk bricking your AKK module.

Sorry, I missed your previous post but I guess you eventually managed to download the firmware and the instructions. I have no idea why you were being redirected to the TBS website when clicking that link. That doesn't happen for me. Maybe DNS cache, browser cache or browser cookies on your machine are / were to blame.

Regarding the error message, beeping, and LEDs, did you have Achilles firmware on the module before flashing it? If not then the issue might be related to licensing because Achilles Plus is paid for firmware. You might just need to buy a license (HERE) and then use that number displayed on the screen to activate the license. I don't actually know. It is probably worth you trying to contact the Achilles developer (HERE) and asking.

I only have one of the Realacc RX5808-PRO-PLUS-OSD modules and not one of the AKK ones. My Realacc module came pre-installed with a licensed version of the Achilles firmware so further upgrades were free and after flashing they just worked without any issues.

If you manage to find out what the cause of your issue is, can you please post the resolution back here to help others who may find themselves in the same situation.
