Need recommendation for FPV setup
#1
I have a 1/10 scale, rock crawler rover that I would like to add FPV to.

Slow driving so no need for high frame rates or low latency or even long range.

Plan on DIY pan & tilt for camera.

Would later add GPS, OSD, QGC to add complexity  Whistling

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

You are probably looking at analog for that sort of money. if you went Walksnail, for the cheapest goggles, the Fatshark Recon HD, you are looking at $280. So definitely analog.

Eachine EV800D - $100 @ GetFPV
TBS Unify Pro32 VTX - $50 @ GetFPV
Xilo AXII MMCX RHCP - $10 @ GetFPV
2x Xilo AXII Stubby SMA RHCP (for the EV800D) - $20 @ GetFPV
Foxeer Razer Mini or Nano (depending on size you need) - $20 @ GetFPV

That's an example spec, someone might suggest something else. Wink

And an additional fan for cooling the vtx for slow drive vehicle, maybe an unify nano pro 32 30$ up to 500mw would be enough, i like pathfinders suggestions for inexpensive decent analog gear.

There is also OpenIPC which has finally released a ready-to-use AIO VTX/camera solution for under $100, but it is sold out so you would have to wait for the next batch (or you can build your own with off the shelf security camera equipment if you want a project). I believe you also need a receiver connected to a laptop and need to be comfortable installing the apps in linux. Probably take you some legwork to get it setup as you will probably need to do a bit of research, but if you have a laptop, it would probably be the cheapest digital solution. Otherwise there are also OpenHD and Ruby that are also open source HD video transmission solutions and I think use RaspberryPis. Or even use a consumer wifi security camera if its range works for your needs.

Otherwise if you have an HDMI screen, you can get the Walksnail VRX combo that comes with a VTX for around $250. This would be the smaller 500mw VTX though, not sure how much range you would get on the ground, I imagine a few hundred meters? if you are in an open space.

Hi Butchalline,

OK, I am going to go down a different path here.

How about, we keep this simple and cost effective to start. Let's just get
you going, then you can work on the "fancy" stuff later.

Let me work on the assumption that the controller in the buggy does NOT
have an OSD chip on it, so, let's take that out right up front.

Since any pan, tilt, servo actuated mechanisms also rely on the controller
being able and have some unused break out pads; let's defer that until
later as well.

So, what do you REALLY need? How about a camera with an attached VTX
that only requires power? Something like this one or this one or this one
These are cameras with a backpack VTX all connected together. The only
thing they need is power. A 1S battery or a 5V power source. Mount it and
done. Besides using these on tiny whoops, I have also seen this arrangement
on model railroad trains. They will certainly work with a ground buggy and
won't break the bank.

These little Camera/VTX combos can be mounted to just about anything and
all you need is power. Yeah, they are cost effective as well and easily set with
the buttons.

Any analog goggles will work, even those cheap $ 59 USD goggles. Yes, the
Eachine EV800Ds are better googles and decent for the $ 100 USD that they
cost.

So, depending on which goggles you get and precisely which camera/VTX
combo, you could be in the game for less than (or about) $ 100 USD.

Anyway, that is what I would do.

Later, iFly   High Five
