My new frame to be used with runcam split
#1
In Canada, I have been getting many restrictions so I have needed to shrink down the weight. I switched to 130-160 and then the issue of HD video came out :-(.
Runcam split was introduced and then I came across the prop issue in the video. Therefore, I decided to design my own frame to avoid props in my video.
There are few frames in the market you can buy that don't have the prop issue (they are expensive for me). They are not low low profile (which I prefer).
Anyhow, I just wanted to give it a try and design my own frame.
Please consider that I'm a software guy and this is my first attempt and design in this world. I have never down any design in my life.
Therefore, please let me know if I made a lot of mistakes.
I don' have access to CF cutter (even though I purchased the CF sheets) so I cut  my frame with Acrylic. Hopefully I will cut it soon on CF.
I just flew with this material (indoor) and there was no issue. Acrylic is really soft.

Requirements of my design:
1) no prop in split hd video in its full FOV
2) no need to have extra hardware to mount camera
3) compatible with 20x20 and 30x30 hardware
4) compact as much as possible.
5) being able to take out the sd card from split 1
6) low profile

So here we go . This is 129mm frame with all components in.
I look forward to getting your thoughts.

Looks good! Do you know how much it weighs?

With acrylic which is heaver than CF it is 24.2 with out screws and 3d printed.
The 3d printed is around 6grams 100% ( which can be brought down to 3-4).
I think with CF I can end up 30 grams (the whole frame).
Consider that with this frame these is no need to runcam split mount which is 3-6 grams.

With the frame you can use any batteries less than 95grams to be under 250g limitations.
I use 550, 750, 850mah batteries.

Nice Job Dukevah, I am also working on a (FUFAA class) split frame... though I am hoping to get 4" props on mine, it may have to run a 3s to stay under the magic number >250g

Edit to add  : The dust from cutting CF is very bad for your lungs, look up how to cut it safely.

Armattan productions will cut CF to your design (from 1mm - 5mm thickness), you can see posts from forum members here  and here, I know you already have the material, but just for future reference.

Thank you so much.
Thanks for the links. I was actually looking for it. I'll check it for sure.
I also worked on 4 inch frame and 125. These are what I designed.

I set up all these frames and there was no props on the video. The camera mount can be used for all models.

I am 100% sure you can make under 250/4'. Actually I made a sub 250/4' with runcam split and I was so happy with the performance. The issue was props in the video. That's the reason I designed my own. I was running 3' props on 160 frame and it was super fast. Then, I told myself I can shrink down the fame and make it more lighter.
This is my sub 250 with suncam split.

I am attempting a design that uses the 1707 motors from RCX and also allows the LiPo to be housed within the frame too, trying to keep all the weight centralized. How is the CG with the rear motors so far back?

Interesting. The key part for you design can be how easily remove ad attach the battery. Looking forward to seeing it.
The CG of frame is exactly under the FC. The cool thing is that mount+camera balances the back part+FC+split board. That's the reason the battery looks like is not in the middle in the picture. It happens because I move camera further and it looks like it is not balanced. However, weight-wise it is balanced and there are even enough space to play with the battery weight.
