Motors can fall apart while flying???
#1
First time this has ever happened to me! One of my FPVCycle motors separated while I was flying! Has this happened to anyone else?

What sort of flying were you doing? Flying into a tornado? Big Grin

It was probably bonded badly. In manufacturing you get the odd piece that isn't within tolerances, so you should expect a failure once in a while. Still, it's probably 1 in 10,000 or similar type odds. In my old life I could buy say 1000 hard drives and at least 10 of those would be faulty, sometimes a lot more than 10 (some brands were far worse (Maxtor Tongue )). In this hobby it often seems to be electronics that are problematic, but mechanical parts shouldn't be discounted for failure.

Kebab mentioned a batch of those motors used the wrong glue so the bells can come apart like that. I've always heard that he'll replace them if you reach out. The motors are now coming in unibell so this won't be an issue going forward.

I was in the middle of a powerloop, and right at the peak I heard a 'tink, tink, crunch', and the quad dropped like a rock - OSD said at that point I was pulling just under 12Gs LOL

Yeah, that’s not supposed to happen. Tongue
How did the rest of the rest of the quad hold up after your motor self destructed?
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Just two bent props, and a scratched lens on my Nebula cam - Could have been much worse!

I have had cheap motors come apart (Racerstar). The clip holding the shaft in the bearings was lost and the motor separated. Never had a magnet come loose, but possible? Yes...it is possible.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)
