I have to say though, i like the controller it comes with, and yes, the whole package is pretty small even with the 4 batteries, if you can use your phone as a plug-in FPV screen. I'd say, if you like doing cinematic videos (not freestyle-ish), i think you would like it. • Posts: 203 Threads: 39 Likes Received: 42 in 32 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Jul 2016 Reputation: 2 A couple guys at work have them. It's an awesome piece of technology but it's definitely not "exciting". In sport mode it can go 45mph, which is what a freestyle quad will cruise at. If you want it for recording beautiful videos it's an awesome device. If you want it for excitement....for that price you could build the most exciting freestyle/racing quad 3 times. It does have some fun modes in it from what I understand but they aren't the same as flying a race quad. Personally, I do want one although I might be more likely to go for a spark if I were to get a DJI product... The problem is if I were willing to put that much money into a quad right now I'd build another mini race/freestyle quad instead :p maybe some day when I am rich lol I have 2 friends that have them. One guy is a photographer and uses it for nature photos and the other guy mostly films fixed wings as they fly... neither really does anything dynamic with them like flying around. I don't think they're quite stable enough for proximity flight based on what my photographer friend has told me. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I have one and for what it is meant to, it is one of the best thing out there. If you just want to go fly it around, you will get bored. Even in sport mode, it will not allow you to do flips or any crazy maneuvers. There is only some many times you sprint all out and sprint back before you yawn. For AP, it is great. Very stable video, long battery life, good range, easy control, compact for travels. I take it with me on vacation, it packs up with extra batteries to the size of my TX for FPV. I would pick the Mavic over the bulky Phantom and the less than stellar battery life of the Spark. 5 mins in FPV when you are concentrating 100% sometimes feels very long. 25 minutes when you are trying to setup shoot and capture video can feel really short. I got a Mavic Pro when it first came out, and for what it's built to do (aerial photography / videography) it's an incredible piece of hardware to own. If you want to capture images and video then I wouldn't choose anything else! It's way more portable than a phantom (or inspire), and still takes incredibly stable 4K video. If you're after something fun to fly?... it gets old pretty quick, it's a AP platform not really built for fun or exciting flying (when compared to the quad's most of us fly here) Posts: 634 Threads: 56 Likes Received: 335 in 196 posts Likes Given: 183 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 15 06-Sep-2017, 09:11 AM (This post was last modified: 06-Sep-2017, 09:13 AM by Grisha0.) my goals are simple: for fun i have racing/freestyle quads.. this is not going to replace it... for travels they are not efficient (bulky) - and people at airports looks strange at you for travels i'm more into making movie as a memory of where i've been and what nice i've seen doing this (movies) with freestyle quads with crazy expo ... is not the best - ofcourse i could tune and softmount... but who has time for that 4k is not a priority but nice to have good lens is something i'd like, and as i've seen movies out of mavic it was good one thing that i'd like to validate is focus as there are mixed opinion on the net. what i like the most on mavic is... that it is foldable and small, same for tx... foldable and small... The Mavic would be perfect for your travels. Focus was only an issue because initially people didn't know how it worked. It works the same way as your phone where you just need to tap to focus before you record or take a picture. I have personally assigned one of the rear function buttons to focus for me so I just hit that before taking a photo or hitting record. DJI have since updated the software so you can enable a 'continuous auto focus' mode, which will check the focus on a point every few seconds, this can cause focus searching sometimes in lower light though, which doesn't look good on film, so I only use this when there is plenty of light.
