Los Angeles: Drone Race Track Antelope Valley
#1
Hi all,
I’m weighing the possibility of opening up a practice/race track in our 25-acre property in Antelope Valley. It is pristine desert, buttes and other rock formations, and plenty of Joshua trees. The landscape lends itself for us to be able to make interesting runs.

A couple questions:
Would you drive 75 min (from DTLA) to the race track?
What features/type of tracks do you want?

Thanks!

Hi Asiuper, welcome to the forum!

While I don't visit LA often (maybe occasionally flying into LAX when doing a multi-market visit in California) the idea of this flying site does sound great! but part of that is because I am originally from the left side of the country and I've been dreaming of flying around Joshuas, Yuccas, Junipers and great desert elements like that. Maybe someday I'll make a point of heading back out just for a trip to do some flying Smile

If it were something I was planning, I'd say:
  • Natural elements
  • Depending on how thick things are being able to make your way out on walks of shame would be helpful but isn't always a reasonable thing to make possible in the desert.
  • From there if you have a covered space with some tables that could double as a working area and an obstacle to fly around.

Those are just some thoughts off the top of my head... of course the last one requires budget so if you're not looking to spend any money then that would be out... the second one, however, you may be able to recruit help from future participants to do Smile

70mins of driving is okay for FPV LOL
Just make sure there is a good supply of electricity and water, I am sure people would want to stay flying for a good part of the day for the amount of travel they do

Yep. I would gladly drive that distance for a day of flying and hanging out with other pilots.
As Oscar said, just need a place to plug in, repair and refuel (food/beverage) Wink
