I have to buy some new caps. My next question is is it OK to just buy a bag of 1000uf 25-35v and put them on the esc pads and the battery terminal? Or do I need to use 470uf 25v on the esc pads and 1000uf 25-30v on the battery pads? I am running 3s now but expect to upgrade to 4s in the near future. also is 1000uf 25v ok or should it be 35v or higher? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks for your help everyone. 21-Sep-2016, 09:37 PM 25V will be good for 3s. It should be good for 4S also, but 35V will be 100% reliable when spikes hit hard. To be honest here, I use 25V on my quad (4s only) and so far it didn't explode, but the risk is yours - I supply regulated power to my FPV equipment so if anything goes wrong my gear is still safe. I use a cap only because my ESCs are particularly noisy (EMAX Lightning_S are suicidal). One 1000uf cap on battery pads should be enough for whole system. If you really want to solder them to all ESCs, use smaller ones. Find me on Youtube and Instagram. So the voltage spikes from the ESCs get sucked up and stored in the cap, and distributed out on the power grid when there is voltage drops. This happens really fast and that is why the capacitors are so good at filtering the spikes. The larger the cap, the more current it can store. The voltage just tells you how high voltage the capacitor can handle. I wouldn't worry to much with a 25V cap on 4s, but 5s, I would probably look for a 35V cap instead. The low ESR capacitors are faster to suck up the voltage spikes than the normal capacitors, so the low ESR caps are better for filtering. 22-Sep-2016, 12:00 AM Thanks for all the very useful information. For 4s, as mentioned above, 35v is save. For escs, 470uf is a bit of overkill though. Flyduino for example recommends 220uf. Wall of text is wrong . What is your question in there? You are worried that you break stuff, yet you want to fly 6s? 6s means more power + more weight = more damaged stuff on crash. If you feel your 2205 2300kv emaxes (what models? MT or RS?) are weak, check if your 4s packs aren't dying. I use only good batteries, but even they get noticeably weaker over time, especially if they are not handled well. But if you want to go this route, just make sure all your equipment can handle 6s: - get a good PDB, (ie. http://intofpv.com/t-demon-core-v2-3) - put a cap on it anyway (http://intofpv.com/t-littlebee-20a-esc-b...0#pid10160) - get motors that can actually handle 6s (some 2300 can, some will get hot), personally I wouldn't go for anything higher than 2100 on 6s. 5s on good 2300 is probably a better choice. EDIT: If you are not sure what to use and are worried about burning something out, build a thrust stand to check amp draw between different props/motors. You will get answers to some questions after checking it yourself. Just keep in mind that in flight, you'll get about 30% smaller amp draw than on the bench, thrust will also be smaller.
