Frame arrived!



Instructions are clear and the parts are simple to assemble.  A few of the holes were a little tight, but threading the screws in first was easy enough and putting it together was about a 15 minute task.  Stickers, LOVE stickers...but also a few cool additions in the package, a patch even!  



The frame has a lot of room, so I think that it will be easy to get everything situated cleanly.  My control/power stack is 16x16 and it will fit nicely forward of the VTX.



The stack is the FlyWoo Goku F745 Nano/Goku 35A 32bit ESC.  Super small, will test my soldering skills as the pads are NANO.

Need the RX, FPV camera and GPS unit still, but otherwise the build starts this weekend.  Am definitely going to set this up with a compass for INAV, will be installing a single antenna Crossfire Nano.  The additional weight of the Diversity RX does not feel necessary for ranged flight.

That is going to be so light with a 16x16. Lookin good Kaity!!! Yea I swear I think I need a magnifying glass now to solder some of those GOKU pads on their AIO board. I can't imagine how small they must be on a 16x16. But I will hand it to Flywoo, those FC's can take some abuse after so many times messing up the tiny solders lol.

Ohhh just noticed you are planning to rock the Cat 3. One my fav cams are the Cat. Night flying??

By the way, thanks for this feedback Kaity. I am keeping a close eye on any suggestions that may come up on yours and other builds.

I'm expanding screw holes on all future frames to avoid this. This was something I noticed too. Thanks again!!

Mounted the TBS Unify Pro32 to the base plate.  Had elongate the holes a little bit, but that was easy enough.  Also found the rear standoff holes in the perfect spot and by switching to 15mm standoffs, the VTX actually becomes structural.

The Flywoo Goku stack is SMALL...



This frame offers plenty of room and I likely could have fit a 20x20 stack into the mix without too much issue.  Things are starting to come together.




The Goku F745 has 7 UARTs.  Will be setting up the GPS on UART1/SC-DA, the VTX on UART3 and the RX on UART4.  This leaves four left for other things I guess...

Plugged in the RX and it had some ports pre-configured.

UART1: Receiver
UART2: GPS
UART3: (MSP)
UART4:

Changed them around a little bit.

UART1: GPS (TX1/RX1/4.5v/GND/SDA/SCL)
UART2:
UART3: RX (RX3/GND/5v/TX3)
UART4: VTX (VCC/TX4/VTX/GND)
UART5:
UART6:
UART7:

Have to extend the motor wires a little for three of them.  They were from another build.  Not too much work.

It is flyable.  Still need to refine it some, but it is airborne and just flew it around the yard.  I am not trying to keep it light right now, but it is under 250 grams presently.



It still needs a GPS and the camera is a really old Predator V3 that is pretty beat up...stole it from my micro wing for testing.

Uh oh that doesn't sound good.    

Is it wobbly or PIDs feel off?  I use triblades on my tune but you might still be able to use those PIDs as a guide (scroll down on this build log).

Oh, nothing wrong with the frame or build...I just used some heavy stuff and there are places I can trim some grams off with a little attention.  I am attempting to keep the AUW around 250g, so every little bit will count.  For getting it into the air right now...just wanted solid and serviceable.



The video is choppy, but the flight was truly smoooooooooth

Yes, there are spacers in the through-holes of the VTX so the pressure is on the them.  The bottom plate is still present, so there is no loss to rigidity.  The way I assembled the VTX into the frame, it will not bear too much of the brunt of a crash.

Yea I was actually surprised you went with the TBS Race HV cos it is a beefy VTX. Def bulletproof but also certainly not the lightest. And with the 16x16 up front, there might be some weight bias there. But I do see that you have the lipo a bit far forward not sure if that was meant to compensate. Just an idea but I've run stacks in the rear with no issue - Acrobrat comes to mind.

The layout is about perfect for a 90 degree MMCX antenna to clip in directly.  The battery is forward pretty much just because.  There is still a GPS to be installed and not sure how it will be mounted yet.  There is most definitely going to be some revisions as the craft gets some air time
