I started reading everything I could find on the subject, watched at least a hundred youtube videos (onboard videos, tutorials, reviews, ...), started training on FPV Freerider, even "forgot" to sleep twice... And now, after three days of tweaking, the shopping list for my first quad build is ready! I probably won't be able to buy it all at once (that remains to be seen) but anyway I'd really appreciate any advice you may have :-) Thanks, and happy flying! ^^ • Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 Uh Oh... Didn't you know, in some circles FPV stands for "F**king Persistent Virus?" This isn't one your going to shake off with a standard course of antibiotics, I'm afraid! Simon says "Get a quadcopter..." Ok, so no one here out in that round... Simon says "Get a virus!!" Well, I live in South Africa, apparently 1 in 3 people here have HIV, so maybe I will give this round a miss! Welcome to the forum Simon, do you have a 'proper' TX (radio transmitter) that you are using with FPV Freerider? Practice in sims is really helpful, but if you are using the same TX that controls you quad you will be building the necessary muscle memory as well as getting to grips with controlling the craft. Let us know whats on your shopping list before you place an order, some of the pro's here can check it out to confirm compatibility of your components... You gotta love this one :-D Yeah it seems my immune system is kind of weak, I caught quite a few viruses over the years: computers, motorcycles, vaping, ... But damn, losing sleep over it TWICE in a week?! That's new for me. Unfortunately no, I don't have a proper TX yet, I practice with an old video game controller. Honestly it's garbage, but still better than using the touchscreen! I'm actually writing a new post with my shopping list right now, so hopefully you guys can advise me on this first build :-) Thanks for the welcome! FPV pilots are smarter, have faster reaction time, are more entertained, have better international purchasing experience, and are 3 times less likely to catch the common cold than the population. You know... based on um... my own research or something (research that I didn't actually do) Welcome to the site! Definitely go for the radio first. It's what I did and it gave me ample time to build up muscle memory with the sticks in simulators so that my first flight I did pretty well. I regularly put several hours of sim time in per week using the same radio that I fly in the air and I think it really helps me to develop and understand various tricks that I'd like to be able to do as well as fine tuning my precision. Good luck with the hobby hopefully you'll keep enjoying the heck out of it! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 |
