To get a decent sample size, it would be really helpful (and useful) if members on here could spend just two minutes of their time filling in and submitting answers to questions in the form below... https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQ...w/viewform I've already submitted my answers Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 • Posts: 909 Threads: 59 Likes Received: 543 in 318 posts Likes Given: 730 Joined: Nov 2018 Reputation: 26 • Posts: 927 Threads: 69 Likes Received: 339 in 253 posts Likes Given: 153 Joined: Dec 2021 Reputation: 19 Done. Like most surveys, its not going to cover all bases. For example I use FrSky ACSST, (R-XSR) but only because I do not do long range and comply with the spotter line of sight rule, so no disappearing through undergrowth for any time, and it does well enough at what I need, not because I think its the best. • Posts: 536 Threads: 19 Likes Received: 261 in 173 posts Likes Given: 168 Joined: Sep 2018 Reputation: 10 Done! Yeah, I checked analog since that is what I use; mostly because it is cost effective. Yeah, I checked FrSky ACCST because that is what I use. The XM+ is my all around, general purpose, receiver. If or when I fly long range, I have plenty of R9MM receivers. Also, I wire them both SBUS so I can plug and play them between quads. I really like that the XM+ is locked in to ACCST. At some point, I may try ELRS, but not today. • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 The R9MM receivers could be flashed to ELRS and then you would just need to get a module like the BetaFPV or Happymodel. Impressively inexpensive! You will gain the benefit of telemetry. I have 4 wire JST connectors that I have solder to each FC and the corresponding plug on the RX. This way they can be changed out quickly without any extra sodering. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! So far, when I look into using ELRS, the first thing that is mentioned is upgrading the version of OpenTX. Well, that just isn't going to happen. If the JR bay module would work with the original Jumper TX fork just as it is then I could try it. On the other hand, if it requires a certain Open TX build or higher, then that just leaves me out for now. I am NOT touching the Jumper's firmware. It works with everything that I presently use. I works fine and it is NOT broken, so I am NOT fixing it. • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 I updated my RadioMaster TX16S to Edge, it natively supports ELRS. I do understand not messing with things that are working though! SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Not to mention that the longer you stay on an old version of firmware, the harder it can become to do an upgrade when so many things have then changed between the [old] version you are running on and the newest version. Doing frequent incremental updates at regular intervals helps to keep your gear fresh and generally causes less issues and headaches in the long run because less things have changed between updates. At some point, I intend to buy a new RadioMaster TX16S, however, I am in no hurry. When I do buy a new transmitter, then I will consider my options. For now, everything works so I just can't see changing it. On the one hand, things are progressing pretty fast. On the other hand, I don't seem to need any of the newer features. My gear just works. That said, ELRS does intrigue me, but I can wait. My FPV hobby has slowed quite a bit due to me {yeah, by myself} building a house for our son. Long days, tired at night. I don't see me getting too much fly time in until the house is finished. Yeah, then I will deserve a new RadioMaster TX16S transmitter. Would've stayed with frsky but their firmware on the receivers went jenky, life is too short to be flashing firmware on receivers lol. I actually liked the FlySky protocol and never really had issue, but the radio was missing some feature that I felt I wanted. Started into FrSky...and then they played their game with firmwares and it was just too much, left it behind and shifted to Crossfire. Been super happy with it, it has allowed me the confidence to push things. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I actually still use all three because I'm too lazy to switch out receivers lol and my flysky i6x I've modded to run on a 3s battery and external antenna for longer range. There is nothing wrong with flysky if you don't want to fly more than 500 meters. Got the radiomaster tx12 assuming it would do flysky after my jumper tx16 shot craps, however the r.m. tx12 won't do flysky so it's a reason to keep using the fsi6x lol. So far crossfire is doing great but the trend to switch to elrs is tempting, might have to give it a try! • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 ELRS does seem to work well, but if you already have Crossfire then it makes sense just to stay with it. The only reason I have tried it is due to having older R9 hardware collecting dust in a drawer. If it had not been for that, I would not have any ELRS based aircraft at this point. Crossfire is mature and proven, is backed by a single company that cleans up any messes they encounter. There is a lot to be said for that alone...and it just works.
