ISDT 608AC 6S 22.2VDC
#1
Hello,

New here and procured the ISDT 608AC as a beginner/first charger.  I'm having concerns with charging and using it as I do not want to burn down my shop.

Batteries used: CNHL 6S 1300mah 100C 22.2V

608 Settings:
Task - Charge
Chemistry - LiPo
Condition - **Condition only selectable from 4.1V to 4.3V** (this concerns me)
Cells - 6S
Current - 0.1A (set it low for my first plug-in)

If I understand this correctly when I plug this into the charger I should see +/- 22VDC reading depending on the charge level.  I'm seeing approx 27VDC on the 608AC but seeing 22VDC when reading on the multimeter.  I'm thinking that each cell should read about 3.7V and I should be selecting 3.7 on the Condition setting but that is not selectable.

After a few seconds of plugging in the battery and not even selecting an action the FAN kicks on and the wires start warming up.  I haven't started a charge cycle and have only let the battery stay connected for less than 1 minutes as something seems very wrong.

Do I have a defective 608AC?  I've updated and repaired the firmware from the ISDT support webpage.

Thanks for any help.

Adam

Does seem odd any chance you're plugging in the balance connection incorrectly or that battery has an incorrect pin order from a repair?

Even if you were charging at a fairly high rate the wires shouldn't get hot. Wires getting hot sounds like a short somewhere.

Yup, thought I’d triple checked the other cord but it was backwards.

Have you tested on a different lipo pack?

In order not to create a new topic, I'll ask here. What does 22.8V 6s voltage give compared to 22.2V? 4.35V per cell, will the threshold to reach the minimum voltage eventually be reached in more time?

I am not quite understanding your question, but I will try to answer.

22.8 vs 22.2 is 3.8v vs 3.7v per cell. For storage charge, I don't see that much of a difference. Norminal voltage per cell for HV (high voltage) lipo is 3.8 and regular lipo is 3.7V.

HV lipo can charge up to 4.35V per cell. But this seems to really reduce the life of the lipo according to some sourcea. While regular lipo should be charged up to 4.2V per cell. Most smart charger will stop charging at a pre-determined voltage. So even leaving it longer will not charge it more. Damaged lipo might not reach the maximum voltage even if you set the charger to that voltage.

Two batteries with the same capacity and amperage but different voltages per cell and the 4.35 one costs 1/4 the price, what's the point of it for drone use?

I just checked the website. HV cost more than the normal packs. I don't see where HV cost a 1/4 of the price.

HV should cost more.
