Instrument rating for UAV pilots is coming to the USA

Not sure what the rating entails, or how much more info you might have in your goggles.  It does sound interesting, if for no other reason but to see the technology.

UAV instrument rating

This might allow for out of sight fpv operations and night flying. But according to the link you need 5hrs of flight training on a 2lb drone or larger. Sounds reasonable for a commercial pilot who owns large rigs and could benefit from this for insurance reasons but for the hobbyist this a slap to the face. Drone schools arent cheap especially since they all focus on large photography drones and flying rates start at $50/hr plus what ever initial flat fees, classroom and equipment fees are incurred.

Interesting way to address flying out of line of site...instrument flight rating for low/no vis, the same as any GA pilot can attain a rating in. Technically, flying FPV is limited vis as you do not have the ability to scan beyond the FOV of the camera without manipulating the craft orientation.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)
