iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5 very bad range
#1
Hello,

A few months ago, I bought iFlight Nazgul F5 with DJI FPV Air Unit as my first step into the FPV world. I have it together with DJI FPV Googles V2 and DJI FPV Remote Controller (the big one). The problem I have with the drone since the beginning is, that it has very bad range in terms of radio controller. Sometimes I fly 100 m away with no obstacles in between and on the googles I see, that it has almost no signal, both video and radio transmission, but the radio one is worse. It already happend 2 times, that I lost the signal and the drone just dissarmed. Therefore, I turned on the GPS rescue in Betaflight, but the last time I went out flying with the drone, it was about 100-200m away, lost the signal, but the GPS rescue didn't activate and it just dissarmed (and I have it set to only arm the quad, when it has enough sattelites).

So my main question is, how is it possible that there are so many videos online with Nazgul F5, where people can fly with it behind obstacles, 1-2km away without problem and I can't even go further than 100 m, because I'm risking losing the quad, therefore, I basically cannot use it anywhere, to shoot some nature etc., because I would lose the signal immediately. I'm not sure, if my settings in Betaflight are wrong and I can change something in order to increase the range?

I will be grateful to all your advices!

Range issues aren't going to be caused by any Betaflight settings. If you are getting problems with both the video feed and RC link then the problem is something to do with the over-the-air DJI transmission link.

First of all make sure your Vista isn't remaining in low power mode. Next, check the antenna U.FL connection to the Vista in case it has come off. If it looks OK then re-seat it by very carefully disconnecting and re-connecting it again. Be gentle when doing that because it's easy to rip the U.FL socket off the mainboard of the Vista if you don't take care. While the antenna is disconnected shake it to see if there appears to be anything loose in the plastic housing. If there is then the antenna is damaged and needs replacing. The Nazgul Evoque F5 HD usually comes with an iFlight antenna which is screwed on to an SMA connector so check that the antenna is screwed on properly. If it is, unscrew it and check that the socket has a hole in the middle and the antenna connector has a pin in the middle (or vice versa) which will physically plug together when the antenna is screwed on. If they both have holes in then iFlight have fitted the wrong type of antenna.

Thank you for your reply. But if I understand correctly, the Vista is responsible for the video feed, so what could then cause the RC transmission problem?

You said in the first post that you have the "DJI FPV Remote Controller (the big one)". That uses the Vista for its RC link. Some wires from the Vista to the FC then send the commands from your DJI controller to the FC. So both your goggles and controller are communicating directly with the Vista meaning that the Vista is responsible for processing both the video feed and the RC transmission link.

Ok, thank you, I finally understand . I checked the antenna, and it seems to be ok, pin on the drone and hole in the antenna. I only screw it on using my hand, I don't apply any huge force, is it ok? Or I should screw it on more, maybe that's the problem with the connection?. I'm sorry for these noob questions, many of these things I haven't been able to figure out online. So if antenna seems ok, how to I check the antenna connection to Vista and if the vista isn't in low power mode?

So it isn't possible that this is just the range vista has and something like TBS crossfire would be a better option for longer range?

I recently purchased the same from I flight and had similar issue , further inspection I found that I had snapped the cable from twisting whilst trying to tighten the antenna I didn’t realise it was turning thinking it just wasn’t tightening up .
