HELP needed! Setting up GEPRC Rocket Plus
#16
This helps explain the weirdness.  I wish we could sticky this video as I think every one of us has asked the same question at one time or another during our days of fpv addiction.   Rolleyes

Thanks guys, it hovers! I only let it lift 1-2 inches but I noticed that it's not perfectly levelled.
I mean, when I apply a bit of throttle I can already see that it tends to drift in some direction, it does not lift off straight.
I have to apply corrections to try and keep it hovering on the same spot.

The radio is calibrated, the quad was sitting on a horizontal surface and was in Angle mode. No wind influencing the flight.

That left me with a doubt... is that the way it should be?

First of all, make sure the accelerometer is calibrated on a perfectly level surface. Keep in mind that these quads don't have GPS position hold like a DJI camera drone so they will always drift a bit even in angle mode. External factors like a breeze and propwash will also cause the same. You can trim out some of that out if it really bothers you. The video below shows you how to do that.

And it's calibrated! Thanks guys, you are amazing.
Now I'll pause until I get the DJI V2 goggles. In the meantime I'll have to get the drone registered and get the license to fly it.

BTW, I just saw a video from JB informing that there might be a problem with the activation of those.
I already had a ton of issues downloading their Assistant 2, now the firmware/activation issue on their V2 goggles... mmmhh...

Yeah I just saw that JB video too. I'd guess DJI will have it resolved within a day or two so it slow you up much at all.

The battery straps that came with the quad seem to barely hold the battery in place, let alone in case of a crash...

Now the problem is that space between the top plate and the top of the Air Unit is very, very limited.
I wonder if there is any strap which is thin enough but guarantees a better hold.

You want straps that have rubberised threads running along their length on the inside which grips the LiPo and holds it firmly in place. In addition to those you want either 3M Dual-Lock or Ummagrip between the top plate of the quad and the LiPo.

Yeah the cheap straps GEPRC includes with the Rocket are just that....cheap. I like the iFlight straps best.

Thanks, for the time being I followed the 3M Dual Lock suggestion as the Ummagrip Lite isn’t available anywhere. It did help a lot to keep the battery in place, it feels more stable indeed.
The iFlight straps could work, but I fear they are too thick to slip between the frame plate and the Vista Unit.

+1 3M Duallock

Ummagrip is superior to 3M Dual-Lock, but I'm not getting into that "debate" again Big Grin

Guys sorry for the silly questions again: do I have to format the micro-sd card with windows in order to make it work with the Air Unit?

Format the SD Card in the Air Unit. There's a menu option in the goggles to do that. Do the same for the SD Card in the goggles (format it in the goggles).

Thanks it worked, but... hem... in the meantime I managed to crash my drone for the first time and INDOORS!

It landed upside down on a carpet and I disarmed it immediately. Then I wanted to try the FLIP function and I armed it again but immediately one of the props hit the carpet and incredibly I broke not only the prop (understandable) but also the prop guard (ok, fine) but also the 4 screws holding the engine fell off! Meaning it's like they were pulled out from the engine!
How's that even possible??

It is very likely that the screws broke the thread, in which case I guess the engine is gone!

Another weird thing is that differently from the wiring of the other 3 engines if I want to put back the engine in place I will end up twisting the cables.
This is very weird because I don't recall this was the case before the accident...
