Yes, I cut the frames from 1/2" polystyrene foam insulation board.  The 120mm frames weigh just under 5 grams.  It's closed cell foam so iit should float;  but I hope I never have to find out!!!

I suspect that to be the case.  I have built several Whoops, the latest using 7mm motors.  Never had an issue with an FC like it.  I thought it was a motor at first so I swapped in the spare...same issue as before.  Finally swapped the FC into a 65mm frame and found the issue.  Eventually will get it airborne again!

I am a bit of a geeky girl, it seems like it would be really fun to build a foamy!

Don't you just love having spare parts!!!  There's not much that's more disappointing than having to wait for something to be delivered; especially when you see the problem and know that if you just had that one gizmo you'd be back up.

The foamys were fun and very relaxing to make.  The insulation board is cheap and very easy to work with.  So if you mess up, you can just cut another one!  No pressure to get it right the first time.  I didn't plan on making the first one out of foam but when I got the Pro Mini working, (sort of),  as a FC on the bench I didn't want to order a frame and wait.  I use the foam insulation to make fiberglass moulds so I always have some on hand.  It's not very durable but you can always cut another.

I think it would be great if EVERYONE was a little geeky, and/or mechanical, and/or technical, and/or scientific.  I taught my niece basic chainsaw maintenance and she loved it!  We also rebuilt a vintage Homelite C5 chainsaw as her final project in an agriculture course she took.  I'm a big advocate of STEM curriculum!!
I'm trying to think but nothing happens.

Indeed! My dad raised my sister and I around race engines. I am not too fond of getting greasy, but can fix most anything on an automobile. Quads...much cleaner!!!

This became a hobby for me that started as a curiosity really. Now, it is an absolute addiction!!! Smile My family has loved watching me learn to build them and now they enjoy watching as I slowly build up my skills. Just found the video of my first flip...can still remember the feeling of elation that it stayed airborn. Was still using auto leveling back then.

Where is your favorite place to fly?

I've been flying around the back yard and the pastures.  I lost a quad trying to get some pictures of the horses!!!  I got up over the tree line and it was gone with the wind!  I'm trying to avoid freighting the general public and hurting the image of the UAV community by keeping a low profile until my skills improve!

All over my area really.  I am mobile for work throughout the entire county I live it and there are some neat nooks and such to discharge a few packs.  I also do most of my testing in my backyard as I hone the tunes on my main aircraft.  There are a few local parks I like to fly at and then there are some more remote areas that I have had good flights at.

I built my Japalura so that I could have a powerful, but compact quad based on a super solid frame.  It is a 3" brushless.  Recently started flying my 5" again as well.
