Hello to the World from the Wisconsin banks of the beautiful Mississippi River!

I built myself a DJI Flamewheel 450 back in 2014 and never really got it to fly well.

It's got the KKmulticontroller v.5.5 “Blackboard” Multicopter Flight Controller and a Radiolink R7EH receiver. Pretty good stuff at the time but absolutely Stone Age now.... I got it put together OK and set up according to the information that was available at the time, but it kept wanting to flip over no matter what I did. Frustration insued but instead of smashing it with a sledge hammer into little pieces like a part of me wanted to, I packed it all up and put it away until I got smarter....

Well, I don't really feel any smarter 4 years later, but I have been reading and watching videos and I'm ready to try it again. My first goal is to get it flying with the electronics it has, plus FPV, just to be able to say I did it! Then I would like to update it with some more modern components and use it to take some pictures. I will probably never be a racer or a free styler, but flying high and slow and seeing the world from a bird's perspective will do me just fine.

There may come a day when I attempt to build one of the newer micro quads and zip around a bit faster, but that will come after building my confidence with the 450. I've got a nice place to fly out in the country so that will keep my interest going and build my skills.

If I get really confident, I can fly in our back yard, the Mississippi River....

I will no doubt be asking lots of newby questions but I hope that you will cut me some slack and remember what it was like that day you finally got your first quad to fly... and help me to experience that rush!
A beginner with a lot to learn and a beautiful place to fly.

Welcome to the forum Dave, hopefully we can help you get that bird back in the air!  The 2 most common problems with a quad flipping over are props installed incorrectly and improper motor rotation. Here's a diagram of correct prop rotation, note that the props leading edge should higher than the rear

Dude, where's my quad?
