I picked up a NEW Baby Ape for $ 70 USD a while back.

However, I have been too busy with LIFE projects for flying so, I can not
tell you how it flies. I will say that it looks good. I figure it was worth the
money.

Looks like the price is a bit over $ 90 USD now.

spoiler: it's a blast to fly! But it has some problems. Expect to be published in 2-3 days.

Darwin has been producing decent, reliable, AFFORDABLE stuff this past year.. I swear by their 1-3s aio.
Got a 20x20 stack in my box, ready to go into a 4” Recon WS build..
And YES, I am interested in the review..

Maybe some sell after test? ?

General question: Baby Ape comes with receiver onboard?

My take would be to get a 1S whoop if you have a lot of 1S batteries, or try and pick some used parts up or a used whoop. Or more tedious, convert the PH2.0 connectors to either BT2.0 or GNB27. Then build a BT2.0 or GNB27 2S power lead. Two BT2.0 or GNB27 connectors to the FC. Same way that BetaFPV/Emax do it on some of their 2S whoops. That would get you up and running. Or you could do what Lemony said and make a converter, but you might end up with voltage sag issues. I would keep 1S batteries for 1S quads.

If money was less of an issue, buy a bunch of new 2S Lipos, maybe CNHL as they have a lot of sales and you can often pick up 2S 450's for around 5-6 euros. On my 2.5" I get about 3-4 mins of light freestyle (loops, rolls, flips, split-s, dives, but no aggressive throttle punches, just smooth flying) flight time on a 2S 450mAh. Also consider picking up 3-4 larger 2S Lipos or maybe 2-3 3S if you have a craft that can use 3S. My 2.5" will run 2S and 3S. 2S is fine for most of what I do, but 3S lets you fly a little harder when you want to.

If you want a slightly more expensive project quad, that excels at 2S and 3S, the Happymodel Cine8 could be a possibility if you can find one. Put it on to a 2.5" toothpick frame and you will end up with a quad that flies really well on 2S, but put a 3S Lipo in and it rips even harder.

Yes, as long as you select the BNF version (Bind and Fly). Don’t forget that you need to select the R81 receiver version of the BNF in order for it to work with your current transmitter.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Hi CafCaf,

Everywhere I have looked, I can only find the Baby Ape in PNP (no receiver) and
ELRS versions. If you find the same when you look for it, then you will need to
get the PNP version, buy the R81 (in addition to the quad), and install the
receiver yourself.

Later, iFly   High Five

Looks that official shop got Babe Ape in all iteration of versions. They got also BNF with R81, 95 to 110 $ depending on frame/video.

Is it OK to change connectors of my all batteries from ph2.0 to xt30? Got bunch of 1S 450-850 and will need to arrange those some way. I can solder and know enough to do it. Question is if make them into 3S by arranging 3x1S into 3S or maybe make double 1S and make such a pair into less powerful but more endure 4x1S block mimicking 2S? waplus.win

You can put on whatever connectors you deem to be appropriate and convert 1S LiPos into whatever configuration you require depending on the application you want to use them for.

It sounds like you already know the risks of working with LiPos so there is no need for me to reiterate that. Just be aware that individual 1S LiPos generally seem to be of a lower quality than already manufactured LiPos containing 2 or more cells, so you may not get a 2S or 3S LiPo out of your jointed together 1S LiPos that are as good as an already manufactured off-the-shelf 2S or 3S LiPo.

Hi bindenntrumpp,

Interesting handle.

Yes, you can change the connector on the batteries especially if the batteries have wires.
Yes, simple. Just be careful and all will be fine.

Regarding connecting 1S batteries in series to achieve an effective 2S or 3S or 4S, there
are basically 2 options. 1) Make an adapter for each cell count or  2) solder them together
to actually create packs. With this second option, you would also need to add the balance
connector and make the proper connections for each cell. Not a real big deal, just be careful.
The process would be the same as making Li-Ion packs (plenty of videos on this).

I just make the adapters so that I can still use the 1S cells in my 1S drones, plus, I
didn't want to mess with the balance leads and connector. I do NOT change the
JST PH 2.0 connector on the batteries because I want to still be able to use them
in my tiny whoops.

By the way, I would NOT mix different mAh batteries. The 1S cells should all be alike.

You mention "less powerful"; Hmmm.  I am not sure that I would say that they are
any less powerful. Well, assuming similar specifications, I get similar results. Such
as 2 x 1S 650 mAh batteries using my adapter performs very similar to a standard
2S 650 mAh battery. Now, this is just from flying and not a technical measuring of
assorted performance metrics. Here is the thing, if you have a bunch of 1S cells,
why not use them regardless of how this technically measures up to a regular
pack. It allows you to leverage what you have.

Great advice. My lipos are all the same age and same brand. Nearly new. Great idea to use connector/adapter instead rigid soldering, sounds very wise. krnl download
