We moved from Springfield to Florida since neither of us like cold weather and snow. We love it here, however, there really isn't a lot of "safe" places to fly. I just don't have the cahones to fly where I have NO possibility of retrieving a downed quad. I have already lost 3 quads. From the beginning, my primary focus has been on the sub-250 gram, FAA category 1, drones. Oh yeah, purely and solely for my personal recreation only; NO benefit to any entity, period. So, that puts me in the area of exemption {at least for now} since I currently don't fly beyond visual line of sight. I also DON'T fly anywhere near people, I often fly high altitude, out of the way, out of sight, under the radar, and now I don't even post videos. Yes, I still have fun flying and am probably about as legal as I can get and that is OK with me. Whether we like it or not, the hobby will likely be moving to smaller, sub-250 gram craft, or just going underground. If you stick you head out, it might not be a good thing. Anyway, Welcome. • Posts: 560 Threads: 21 Likes Received: 303 in 221 posts Likes Given: 319 Joined: Jan 2023 Reputation: 6 26-Feb-2023, 02:45 AM (This post was last modified: 26-Feb-2023, 02:48 AM by QuadFlyer68.) Hi iFly4rotors! Yep, waiting to see how this all plays out, how aggressive the Karens get around here, how the police handle it, if we can still fly at our favorite office compound (after hours, of course). Not gonna lie, I'm no longer a fan of winter, cold, snow, ice, etc. However, February 2023 has been a total treat. 3rd weekend in a row of 50 or near 50°F temps, sunshine, low wind. I've cut WAY back on the videos I post, if any. They don't stay up long till I mark them private. "As legal as I can get" - totally agree _____________________________________ Walksnail / Avatar … It’s better than analog ! So refreshing! It is quite refreshing... EDIT: Here in east Tennessee, it has been a very mild winter (one light dusting of snow which was gone hours later). Flowers have started bloooming and things are budding around here. In the past week or two while up north was getting big snow storms, we were in the 70's and 80's, breaking records... • Posts: 858 Threads: 108 Likes Received: 106 in 83 posts Likes Given: 344 Joined: Nov 2019 Reputation: 3 01-Mar-2023, 07:47 PM (This post was last modified: 01-Mar-2023, 07:48 PM by JinxFPV.) I need some land if I’m going to continue to fly … TN looks beautiful. I do the two glasses method too. I have an old pair of cheater bifocals that work great for this combined with other cheaters. Haven’t been able to replace them. One of the arm joints is damaged and currently bandaged with a short section of surgical tubing. Also have a loupe for inspecting those solder pads. Looking forward to the Amazon solution Which suburb? I'm in the northwest suburbs. Chicagoland has a VERY rich FPV scene. If you are into Planes and helis as well, I would recommend you check out the Checkerboard R/C club in Forest Park. I'm a member there and they're a great bunch. I've been to that Checkerboard field a few times. Usually I fly quads somewhere in the Lombard/VillaPark area. Was flying helis & planes in Addison at Fulleron Heli field (about a mile from my house) and up at Busse woods and a prairie out in Naperville, also the field in Palos on 45. That all kind of ended with Covid back in 2020, and I've taken to quads since. I've got a couple of buddies in Lombard as well who fly quads - one is REALLY good. I was a member of a club right next to Argonne Labs in Lemont a few years ago. It was really convenient - about a 5 minute drive from where I was working at the time. Perfect for lunch time flights. That's all over and done with too. I have no idea what to expect from this hobby going forward, other than I really enjoy it and hope to continue getting my flying fix, one way or another. _____________________________________ Walksnail / Avatar … It’s better than analog ! • Posts: 560 Threads: 21 Likes Received: 303 in 221 posts Likes Given: 319 Joined: Jan 2023 Reputation: 6 01-Mar-2023, 11:12 PM (This post was last modified: 02-Mar-2023, 02:02 AM by QuadFlyer68.) Hey BrettBrandon, I have gotten more outside flights in this past February than I ever have in the past 14 or so years. I figured my new Walksnail video system wouldn't see much action until April-May when the weather usually begins to cooperate here, but I've gotten dozens of flights so far which is really unbelievable. Hope this doesn't mean our summer is going to be unbearably hot & humid .... _____________________________________ Walksnail / Avatar … It’s better than analog ! • Posts: 1,392 Threads: 120 Likes Received: 1,422 in 738 posts Likes Given: 1,100 Joined: Jun 2019 Reputation: 42 Greetings from downunder mate, the land of roos and didgeridoos. • Posts: 560 Threads: 21 Likes Received: 303 in 221 posts Likes Given: 319 Joined: Jan 2023 Reputation: 6 03-Mar-2023, 09:28 PM (This post was last modified: 24-Apr-2023, 02:39 AM by QuadFlyer68.)
