hello from Florida

Hi everyone I joined the forum to get opinions on my first "real" drone. In the looking I've done so far I'm thinking about the Arris 250 . But I'm sure there are others I've not even heard of. Also would like to hear about transmitters and goggles (what's best in cheaper goggles).
Thanks Fredhead

First, welcome to IntoFPV! Great group of helpful folks here.

There are many options for prebuilt aircraft in a wide range of pricing. It really depends on what you want the quadcopter to do...pure racing? Freestyle/Acro flying? Long range?

Radios are a personal choice. I fly a FrSky QX7 with an R9M TX module for 900mhz frequency. It has some limits in terms of the number of switches, but for what I am doing...it works fine and it fit my hands great. I considered the X9, but the X7 just fit better after I had a chance to hold it. If you can find a local field where people fly, ask if you can check out their rigs. It can help you to narrow down your choices.

Goggles, I settled on FatShark Attitude's after trying to make box style goggles work. My eyes are not able to focus with the box type. These are a core part of your kit and so it is an area where skimping is probably not the best idea. I have 7 quads I fly, but I have one radio and one goggle. Best to splurge a little in those areas as quads will likely come and go.

Hey Fredhead , welcome to the site. There really are a bunch of friendly helpful folks here.

I agree completely with what Kaitylynn said above. I have been struggling with box goggles as well, and I'm now shopping for some FatSharks. No matter what you fly, you usually put on the same goggles and grab the same radio, that should be the "good stuff" Plus you are not as likely to have your radio/goggles hit a tree doing 60, so they should be around for awhile. Smile ( long term investment )

Pull up a chair , dig in

Be safe , have fun

Scott

Edit to add: I am kind of leaning towards the Fatshark HD3 based on Roger74's recommendation here https://intofpv.com/t-goggles-with-reading-glasses

Welcome Fred,

I will be one of the dissenters here on the issue of goggles.  I prefer box goggles.

Although the slimline goggles look better on your face and are easier to pack away, I find them far less appealing for flying.  Good box goggles, as there are crummy ones, provide a more immersive flight experience.  I like to do long range, and I also got into FPV as a poor man's entry into flight.  So when I fly, I enjoy the flight.  Slimlines by their nature are more like looking though two toilet paper tubes when compared to box goggles.  But, if your plan is to be a freestyle expert, those that are into that say that the slimlines are superior.

Also, I don't know if you wear eyeglasses, but box goggles lend themselves to wearing eyeglasses better than slimlines  There is one brand that is specifically designed to work with glasses, the FXT Vipers.

If you are looking at getting into FPV cheaply and want less expensive goggles for now, but get slimlines later,  below are a couple that are better than others.  Both have DVRs and both are diversity capable.

Eachine E800D

FXT Viper V2

Hi Fredhead, welcome from Florida (Palm Coast).

First, I wear glasses (not optional, I can not clearly see the image in goggles without them.  At first, I tried modifying some cheap Eachine goggles. Although I was able to make that work, it was a very "clunky" (even clumsy) effort...do not do this. After much research, I bought the FXT Viper 2.0 goggles and love them. First, the goggles do not interfere with eye glasses, Second, they are extremely comfortable to were, third, the bottom soft shield is removable (so you can view the screen, but also see the ground around you, and finally, the monitor can be removed from the head set for use as a stand a lone monitor. If you wear eye glasses, check them out. Yes, you can get diopters for some of the Fat Shark googles, but the Vipers allow you to change glasses (if necessary) without changing goggles or diopters.

As far transmitter, I have a Jumper T16 (original)...if I were buying today, I would get the Jumper T16 Pro V2 (which includes all current upgrades). One of the main draws for me was the Multi-protocol feature. I have many tiny whoops which run the Bayang protocol, several Eachine E010 quads, a Flysky receiver, and three FrSky protocol quads. The Jumper controls ALL of these protocols. It is also a solid performer that may "pros" are moving to. Check out the YouTube videos. This is my daily driver and I love it.

As already stated, these two items are long term investments (so choose wisely). You can buy a quality product that works well (even if more costly) or you can buy cheap over and over again.
