Hdo2 rapidfire blackout?? video added
#16
Yea I flew 2 more batteries. This is what I have read about on the rcgroups forum. This was different than when I had it in my hdo2s they just went dark. I wonder if the attitudes handle the vid/dvr signal different than the hdos. I also noticed I did not seem to loose the Rssi bars this time either, is that normal for a desync? I’m gonna try the single antenna Rx from the attitudes in the hdo2s tomorrow. I flew 1 battery with in today and it seems to work ok.

With your HDO2’s my assumption as I mentioned before seems more like a voltage issue with the board. The analog signal coming into the goggles should behave the same on on HDO2’s or Attitudes.

Did you try flying the RapidFire on legacy mode (diversity) as I had suggested previously?

I never have much faith in RSSI readings for control link or video link because you can have an overall bad link quality even though RSSI is high because to understand RSSI we need to have information about the noise floor.

I have a cell tower 100 meters from where I live and the area is flooded with wifi noise. I can get rx loss or video loss in a blink of an eye even though before it happens my RSSI values are high. Which is why I always fly in my local park lands.

And yes, I have had random desync’s at relatively high RSSI but for me legacy mode kicks in till RF gets the sync again.

What version of the firmware were you running when this happened? With version 1.32 the sync lock defaults to short. Basically if it looses a sync, it very quickly gives you get a beep from the module, you loose the RSSI bars and it switches to legacy/diversity mode which you can sense in terms of colour changes in the image. Once it manages to re-sync, you will hear a beep from the module, RF mode kicks in and you get RSSI bars again and the colours of the image change.

Legacy mode seems to break up bad in the hdo2s. I went from 1.32 to 1.28 this afternoon. And had great video. Just 2 packs though in the attitudes. It seemed to switch to legacy twice but I did not even notice any video breakup during it. Just lost the rssi bars and beeped. Its like it doesn’t switch properly in the hdo2s. I put the single antenna rx from the attitudes in the hdo2s. Gonna test that and see how it works tomorrow. Then try the rapidfire again to see what happens.

The HDO2’s have higher resolution screens compared to the Attitude’s which is why any issues or breakup with the video feed is more pronounced.

The RF mode to Legacy switching is a function of the RF module and the HDO2’s or any other goggle has no control over this. Same is the case with sync reconstruction.

When your module switches from RF mode to legacy mode, its not necessary you will see breakup, the the RSSI bars go away and colours change. If you noticed you lost the RSSI bars then RapidFire detected a loss of sync and switched to legacy quick enough. You probably did not notice the change in colours (not everyone can) during flight and on DVR its hard to notice unless you pay close attention.

Here is an example video from the HDO2's DVR showing the RF to Legacy to RF mode switch. No screen blackout in the goggles and the RSSI is not low before legacy mode kicks in once around the tree and light pole and there is no rolling image. Firmware is version 1.32:

Ok, I see the change. I did not realize all of that this is the way it is supposed to work. With the hdos I see extreme change in colors a lot. Without the rssi loss and beeps. Green sky, and blue/red changes in the whole picture. Is that normal also? I also thought loss of rssi bars was a complete loss of signal. I will do more testing and pay more attention. Randy from fat shark does think the blackout problem might be in the driver board of the hdo2s.

Keep us posted after you do some tests and FS repairs your goggles.

Replaced the driver in the hdo2s 2 weeks ago. Flew a few packs with no problems but no extended flights. Had to take a trip so no more testing yet. Hopefully get to test some more this weekend. Also picked up a fusion module to see how good that is.

What was the result,  are the HDO2's working the way are supposed to after the driver board was replaced?
