Going from 3D to FPV

Anything you can fly with an FrSky, you can fly with Multi-protocol radios.

I’d like to get crossfire system and if they made a module for x-lite pro I’d have my order in.
The JR module will work but an adapter is needed and I may have to use a neck strap which I’m trying to avoid by getting an x-lite pro.
I’m tempted to get a R9M lite pro module and Taranis  x-lite pro and be done with choosing radio but I think Crossfire is the way to go.
I see lots of complaints with FrSky but very few with crossfire.I also hear they are easier to setup.
Maybe TBS will make a lite version that will fit x-lite pro.

They make a JR module adapter specifically for the Xlite you can find on Amazon, eBay or even DIY 3d printed yourself. But it is a bulky solution for the Xlite. When I flew the Xlite Pro, I hacked the adapter wiring and just 3M-automotive-double-sided taped the Crossfire Lite to the back of the Xlite. It is not a temporary solution but the cleanest. Also, I could no longer use the module bay.

I am surprised you seem to be gravitating to the Xlite. If it is the compactness and you like Crossfire, you should be looking at the TBS Tango 2.

Unfortunately they won't. They have pretty much made that clear on their live streams. TBS and FrSky hate each other and TBS isn't going to make a Lite module specifically for the X-Lite (which is all it would be useful for) when they want people to buy their Tango 2 transmitter.

If the Tango 2 worked with 2.4ghz or non long range fixed wing craft I would probably get one.
I thought about installing JR modules on x-lite pro but like you said it makes it bulky and kind of defeats the getting a light compact transmitter.
I would rather use crossfire but may settle for R9M.
I could keep using my Futaba for 3D and get a tango 2 for drones.
I would rather have one radio for everything but...

Or consider the Jumper T18. From what I have read, this radio transmitter has multi-protocol and R9 protocol built into it. So...one transmitter for everything including R9 long range; FrSky, Spectrum, FlySky, etc. etc. including the FrSky R9 gear. All of your old gear (boats, cars, planes, etc.) and your new quads. The best of all worlds.  Big Grin

With multiprotocol if you switch from 2.4 to 900mhz won’t that cause problems with antenna and range?

I need to keep in mind I don’t plan on flying more than 1.5 kilometers away.

Maybe a R9M is all I need.
I think the video range will end up limiting my range.
More power,more batteries,more weight,more money,more time,etc....
