GEPRC Phantom / GEPRC SMART25 |
13-Sep-2020, 05:28 PM (This post was last modified: 13-Sep-2020, 05:32 PM by iFly4rotors.) 15-Sep-2020, 04:40 PM I know I'm very late to the party here, but I bought a Phantom based on AndyRC's review and it turned up at the end of last week. The first thing I did was to swap the XM+ receiver for an R-XSR connected via f.port and put the antennas on zip ties at the rear of the top plate. I just can't live without telemetry, particularly when flying LOS. This was the first receiver I have configured in f.port mode which was the only way I could get telemetry to work on the serial port deprived F405 flight controller. My Phantom had Betaflight 4.1.1 installed as delivered and with the custom tune that GEPRC have on it, it flies very well. I've had loads of trouble with tiny, high kv quads before - things like poor control, loss of level when flying horizon mode, hot motors, etc, etc. The Phantom is the exact opposite. I was genuinely surprised when I took off and discovered how well it flies! I'm not sure I'd like to fly it in any significant wind considering how light it is, but today was a rare, almost wind free day and the Phantom exceeded my expectations in every way. My all up weight with a 300mA/h 3S battery is 75g and I'm getting around three minutes flight time which is pretty good. The only real criticism I have is about GEPRC's strange aversion to using thread lock. Absolutely none of the screws on the Phantom are thread locked and sooner or later, the motor screws and frame screws will fall out without it. Is it a toothpick? Is it just a micro? Who cares, it's lots of fun and flies like something considerably larger and heavier! 15-Sep-2020, 04:47 PM (15-Sep-2020, 04:40 PM)unseen Wrote: My Phantom had Betaflight 4.1.1 installed as delivered and with the custom tune that GEPRC have on it, it flies very well. I was genuinely surprised when I took off and discovered how well it flies! Mine is still on Betaflight 3.5.7 because that is what it came with from GEPRC at the time I bought it and I haven't had the appetite up upgrade and try to re-tune it on a newer version. Would you mind uploading the factory tuned dump of Betaflight 4.1.1 here so anyone who wants to upgrade to a newer version of Betaflight and isn't very good at tuning can just use GEPRC's factory tuned settings. Thanks. 15-Sep-2020, 05:00 PM I didn't save the untouched dump from when I received it and what with changing the receiver, my diff would not necessarily help anyone. However, the changes made for the purposes of tuning are untouched and the changed tuning parameters from the diff are as follows: Set LoopTime to 4KHz, gyro sampling to 4KHz and motor protocol to DSHOT300. Apply the following commands: set gyro_lowpass2_hz = 350 set dyn_lpf_gyro_min_hz = 280 set dyn_lpf_gyro_max_hz = 700 set dshot_idle_value = 600 profile 0 # profile 0 set dyn_lpf_dterm_min_hz = 98 set dyn_lpf_dterm_max_hz = 238 set dterm_lowpass2_hz = 210 set feedforward_transition = 60 set p_pitch = 41 set i_pitch = 70 set d_pitch = 28 set f_pitch = 93 set p_roll = 38 set i_roll = 65 set d_roll = 26 set f_roll = 88 set p_yaw = 63 set i_yaw = 65 set f_yaw = 88 set d_min_pitch = 21 15-Sep-2020, 05:06 PM I'm running BF 4.2.2, Azure Power 2540-3 props and Tattu R-Line 550mah battery. set motor_pwm_protocol = DSHOT300 set scheduler_optimize_rate = ON set dshot_burst = OFF set gyro_lowpass2_hz = 275 set dyn_lpf_gyro_min_hz = 220 set dyn_lpf_gyro_max_hz = 550 set dshot_idle_value = 700 # profile 0 set dyn_lpf_dterm_min_hz = 77 set dyn_lpf_dterm_max_hz = 187 set dyn_lpf_dterm_curve_expo = 7 set dterm_lowpass2_hz = 165 set feedforward_transition = 50 set yaw_lowpass_hz = 100 set throttle_boost = 8 set throttle_boost_cutoff = 25 set p_pitch = 69 set d_pitch = 48 set f_pitch = 76 set p_roll = 63 set d_roll = 45 set f_roll = 72 set p_yaw = 68 set f_yaw = 72 set angle_level_strength = 25 set d_min_roll = 0 set d_min_pitch = 0 set auto_profile_cell_count = 3 set ff_interpolate_sp = AVERAGED_3 set ff_spike_limit = 70 set ff_smooth_factor = 20 set idle_min_rpm = 27 Andrea - "If you want to check your quad durability, let me fly (crash) it" 15-Sep-2020, 05:53 PM Andrea - "If you want to check your quad durability, let me fly (crash) it" 15-Sep-2020, 05:55 PM (This post was last modified: 16-Sep-2020, 02:43 PM by iFly4rotors.) Well, I just unpacked my new (a few months ago) GEPRC Phantom (analog, XM+), fired up Betaflight configurator, and plugged it in. Yeah, no props yet and she has not been fired up with a battery. Looks like it might have a 600mW VTX...SWEET {2020-09-16} I stand corrected. The actual output is 200 mW as pointed out by Andreab It is running Betaflight 4.1.1. Rather than put the raw text directly into the post, thought I would try it as attachments. Hey, Snow, check it out and see what you think. 15-Sep-2020, 07:45 PM It’s a 200mW VTX Andrea - "If you want to check your quad durability, let me fly (crash) it" 16-Sep-2020, 02:52 PM Hi andreab, You are correct, the VTX in the GEPRC Phantom is 200 mW. Although I knew this {or thought I did}, what confused me was the fact that I was able to set the VTX to 600 mW in Betaflight (reference attached pic). On the one hand, I could understand that the table might go beyond the VTX, although it shouldn't, but it confused me when Betaflight actually let me set the power value to 600 ...and SAVE it Either Betaflight just doesn't really know, OR who ever set up the VTX settings and table got something incorrect. I guess this is something to be aware of Thanks 16-Sep-2020, 02:59 PM Betaflight doesn't really care about the VTX: you configure the power profiles on the CLI and BF sends that data to the VTX. There is no 2 way communication between these pieces: for example if you set the values through Smart Audio instead of Irc Tramp you won't get any error, but no changes as well. Andrea - "If you want to check your quad durability, let me fly (crash) it" 16-Sep-2020, 06:18 PM BTW I'm waiting for a new frame... I though it was more durable. From your picture, it looks like the battery strap is zip tied to the the small holes. No I'm on top mounting batteries, it's just a misleading pic Andrea - "If you want to check your quad durability, let me fly (crash) it" |
