Furibee X140...
#1
Hey guys,
Thought I would share my experiences with my Furibee X140 so far...

So the maiden in South Africa was disappointing, about 2 mins in one of the motors fell apart, on closer inspection there were no grub screws on any of the motors. Fast forward a few months and I received the Garila 1507 (3755kV) motors from Sandra at BG to review (that is coming soon, just need to finish building the thrust test stand) I have also got the replacement parts (grub screws, motor shaft and bearings) needed to rebuild the stock motor that disintegrated! I went and visited Oscar and flew the Furibee with the new motors, and crashed into a tree during my 2nd pack. Got some really odd behaviour after the crash. Gianpa picked up the model and was shouting "disarm, disarm!" and it WAS disarmed!? This was the end of the FC.

So I rebuilt the model using the F428 stack that was going to go into my BD Cobra 185 (4") and took it down to the park. It was very twitchy, jumping about on the yaw axis without any input. I fiddled with it a bit, soft mounted the FC, lowered looptimes, but all to no avail. Anyway, I received the mount for the SQ12 camera from RC3Dprints (Ebay UK) item delivered quicker than expected and a pretty good print for a very reasonable price. Zip tied it to the Furibee and went out to fly in my local park. I managed to get through all 4 of the packs I have, went back in the afternoon and crashed again, DAMMIT!!!

I tried to use the stock 4-in1 ESC with the F4 FC from the F428 stack to determine where the twitchy-ness was coming from, and despite using the same plug, the bloody pins are in a different order, there went the 2nd FC in as many weeks. DAMMIT DAMMIT!!

Oh well, replacement on its way...

Thankfully the Mrs isn't here to berate me for ordering replacements. I miss her food a lot though!!!

OH man! that sucks!
I don't have a spare 20x20mm FC, but if you need parts to fix your quad just shoot me a message while you are in the UK Big Grin

Hey guys, Just thought that I would give an update on the Furibee X140 situation...

I have been smashing this little guy around for the past few months and have started to get some de-lamination of the CF on one of the arms. I looked for spare arms but frustratingly I cant find any, so I have undertaken the challenge myself...

I have measured all the mounting holes on the arms and the precise distances between the motors to come up with a design that should fit, I have uploaded the designs to Armattan productions and will order as soon as the designs have been accepted.

In addition to the standard 3" stretched X format, I have made some arms that will make the Furibee a True X, and I have also designed some extended arms to allow the frame to be fitted with 4" props too, in both stretched and true X format, the 4" true X frame is 175mm, and the stretched is about 170mm.

Beware - I wouldn't advise using 4" props with the stock motors and ESC though...

Watch this space for updates!

Tom,

Maybe you can help me.. ? OK so I am a noob in the racer world.. and well I purchased an x140 less than 6 months ago.. well I believe my FC board is "bricked" and will not work any longer... SO I figured I can just go to gearbest where I purchased it and get a new board and be good... NOT.. Gearbest discontinued the FC and now I don't know what to do.. I found out it was an F3 board however, it had certain plugs on it to support the beeper and LEDs etc.. and the VTX plugged into it via pins mounted on the card..

BLUF: I don't want to purchase a new FC that wont work with the rest of the equipment the quad came with..

Any advise is appreciated... I loved this quad (for a short time).

I did answer this in a PM, but for anyone else who may have the same problem -

When I purchased a replacement for the FC (after I crashed into a tree and got the strangest behaviour I have ever seen from a quad) I bought a replacement F4, but when I plugged it into the ESC the FC immediately burned!  Angry

I would advise getting an FC and 4-in-1 ESC combo such as the HGLRC F428 stack for $63.

Or (as the furibee is a cheap model) to save a few $$ the F3 Nano Flytower also with a 28A ESC for $48, or even cheaper (though not released yet...) the Mamba F4 with 25A ESC for $38.

These 2 options will also allow you to upgrade your motors for something that draws a few more amps - I am very impressed with how the Garila 1507 3755kV run on this model, check my review here

I have to second Tom's suggestion of simply replacing the entire stack. I am a fan of the HGLRC F428, though I think it has been superseded by the F430 at this point. Regardless, I have the F428 stack in The Bug, a 2.5" freestyle build and it has proven to be tough and reliable.

Having some basic soldering skill will be super helpful in the change over, no matter what direction you choose to go. Once done your craft will be airborne again!
