15-Jun-2017, 03:38 AM Any thoughts on an X vs Stretched X frame for freestyle? Which do you think is better? 15-Jun-2017, 06:52 PM Pure X is always going to feel better than a stretched X, but the pure X frames are pigs to build because there is so little space for the electronics. Thankfully, things like the Betaflight F3 flight controller and 4-in-1 ESCs make building a pure X much easier than it was just a year ago. 15-Jun-2017, 08:28 PM Having front and rear motors a bit further apart is not such a bad thing imho - it makes up a bit for the length-wise weight distribution, and air-flow might be a tad better. Though i would focus on wether the props get into the view of the HD cam then. 06-Nov-2017, 10:42 PM (15-Jun-2017, 06:52 PM)unseen Wrote: Pure X is always going to feel better than a stretched X, but the pure X frames are pigs to build because there is so little space for the electronics. why? have you flown both? i 'm not being argumentative, just interested in other perspectives than mine (i'm a big stretched, and even asymmetric frames fan) 07-Nov-2017, 12:12 AM I have a stretched X Talon and a wide X Martian 3, here are some dvr screen grabs with the same camera and lens to give you an idea of the visual difference with the props. Talon (stretched X) Martian 3 (wide X) Flying: Talon 6S 6" 2407s 381g no bat, Martian 3, 5" 2205s sooo heavy + gopro session 5 573g AUW, Aurora 5" 2205s 280g no bat, Druckbaer 3" 1404s 172g AUW 3S 550, BQE Megapixel 2.5" 1107s 139g AUW 3S 550, BabyHawk R 2.5" 164g AUW 3S 550 (stock except microeagle, CRSF, 2.5" arms) and maybe 3 more, for now... 07-Nov-2017, 12:28 PM (06-Nov-2017, 10:42 PM)borjo Wrote: why? I have both pure and stretched X craft in my fleet and I've always felt that handling was sharper and more predictable on the pure X craft. This is absolutely nothing scientific, it's just my personal experience of how they feel in flight. 07-Nov-2017, 06:39 PM I use a stretched X frame, and I know many other very good pilots who use stretched X frames. Also, they are generally cheaper. If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT! My YouTube FPV Channel |
