Fatshark HDO2
#1
Manual for HDO2 is out there. Same displays as ORQAs I believe? Seems to be a really nice goggle! ORQA is in trouble even before they are on the market..

Quote:The HDO2 is shipped in Legacy Mode. If you connect a 7-13V (2S or 3S) power source to the power port the HDO2 will automatically power on and it will power off when the source is removed. With a short press, the Power Buttonwill turn on and off the fan while in this mode.If you hold the button, the HDO2 will continuously beep to remind you the headset is in Legacy Modeand the goggles will not power down.

OK, YOU INGRATES. HERE'S YOUR DAMN POWER BUTTON. NO IT ISN'T WORKING BY DEFAULT. ____ YOU ALL. (please don't buy Skyzones)

The ground is for dead people.

There are rumours circulating that the HDO2's are going to be released in the next 4-5 weeks. Mr Steele is already testing a pair. There are also rumours that the DVR is the same as that in the immersionRC PowerPlay which is h.264 so way better that the current crappy DVR used in all their other goggles.

is that going to make the powerplay obsolete sooner than we expect ? Big Grin

Well it looks like that has turned out to be a mis-informed rumour.

Looking at the DVR specs in both the HDO and HDO2 manuals, the DVR is still the same crappy 6Mbps, MJPEG compression (AVI), 30fps DVR that they've used for years, so no improvement there unfortunately. Which is disappointing Sad

Fatshark finally woke up! 4:3 and 16:9 switchable, 46 degree FOV, more IPD adjustments, a POWER BUTTON and better fan control, and better resolution. Too bad Fatsharks don't fit my face though...

Supposed to have adjustable faceplates as well.

The new HDO2's have an adjustable fit faceplate for different face curvatures by using insertable "arcs", something similar to the Skyzones.

This all huge, I don't even care about a power button... Smile. Likely as close to ideal as anyone has managed so far especialy if the resolution is high. Having had HD2's and having HDO's currently, 46* is like baby bear's porridge. Back to a potential ORQA/Fatshark battle next year? Wonder what SkyZone and AOMWAY are cooking-up to compete?

Having just bought HDO's a while ago I'm actually a little pissed-off these things are in the pipeline but Fatshark never ceases to put the "beaten" in their version of "beaten wife syndrome"... Guilty beaten wife here, I love Fatshark products, have always had great luck with them and my Dominators fit like they used my face as a design template.

I am a little upset that the HDO2 is coming out so soon after the original. Can't blame them though.

While the FOV is super tempting, unless this has some sort of special integration with BF (other than aspect ratio), I think I'll hold off.

They should really do some sort of goggle buyback program with such tight release roadmaps.

At the moment, unless the HDO2's are going to be $50-100 cheaper than the ORQA's then I say the ORQA's are still the better option because they appear to have the same specs, but at least the ORQA's have a decent DVR. The HDO2's do have adjustable focus which could be a benefit for those who need a focus that is somewhere in between what the off-the-shelf -2, -4 and -6 diopters offer, but for me that is of less value than a decent DVR.

Having spent $450 just 15 months ago on the HDO's, I'm not sure I would jump in so soon with another big goggle spend. If FatShark had a trade-in option then it might possibly tempt me.

Looking forward to seeing the HDO2 vs ORQA head-to-head test reviews Smile

@Oscar - You need to update your FOV tool to include the HDO2's Wink https://oscarliang.com/js/fpvgogglefov.html
