Fat Shark barrel connector
#1
After only 6mo of flying I notice the power cutting off on my HDO2's. Luckily I was not in the air when this happened because it would have caused a crash! I believe it is in the wire that is coming out of the 18650 battery case to barrel plug. If I wiggle the wire the googles shut off. I was wondering if there is a good replacement plug that can be wired with better wire? When I got into this last March I thought Fat Shark was a reputable company. For the amount spent on their googles the critical components should be solid. Not to rant and rave but when a support email to Fat Shark i wrote about that crappy piece of foam around the eyes. Their response was to buy Newbee foam. Now I ask myself after spending over 700.00 for a google and receiver why should I have to buy any third party accessories? Signed burnt by Fat Shark.

Fatshark barrel connector is 2.1mm x 5.5mm. You can buy any generic of Amazon. I don't know if one is better than the other. I have used them to make my battery pack and have not had any issue.

As for the crappy foam, at least the HDO is so much better than the ones that came with the Dom 3. I ended replacimg the Dom3 foam with Skyzone foam. They have held up for me. My HDO foam is holding up fine.

Just because you pay good money for something, doesn't mean it can't be improved. I had a pair of Ski/Snowboard goggles by Spy. I remember it was expensive. When the foam on that finally fell apart, I ask Spy of they have a replacement. They told me no. Best they can offer is a small discount for a new set. Look on the bright side, at least there is a replacement for the foam.

I took the wire apart on the connector and it's very very  fine wire. At any rate the strands are way to fine and brittle for a cord that's supposed to flex. If the cord from the battery case was subjected to testing I think Fat Shark would have found this to be the case. Very poor craftsmanship on their part for such a critical piece of their googles is all I'm saying. Thanks for the plug size!
Jeez and foam is such a simple thing lol.

Fixed the issue. Ordered 12 2.1 x 5.5mm pigtail from amazon. Thanks voodoo for the tip! Got em in one day! 6.00 and change! To take the battery holder apart there are 2 screws under label. Just cut around with knife. You can feel the screw holes with the tip of the blade. Carefully unsnap the cover from body. I personally feel the fused barrel connectors are better than the soldered ones but your call.

Next just solder on new wires. There are wires going to the battery tabs that I also replaced with silicone wire. There are 3 solder tabs on the + side and 3 solder tabs on the - side of the battery gauge board. They were under big balls of solder so you cant see them till you un solder the wires. Just solder each side with all 3 tabs and good to go. I also took removed the unnecessary  battery JST plug. You don't need for the HDO2's. Here are the end results and part number. l Hope this helps anyone that has these googles for a few months, check the wire to the barrel connector before you fly!  Simply wiggle the wire that goes to the barrel connector back and forth a little. If your googles go out its time to replace the battery holder or apply this fix. If this wire goes bad in flight your googles will just shut off. It will be catastrophic in flight because you won't know what to do in time to avoid a crash. Glad it happened to me when the quad was getting refueled at my local tesla charging station!

Glad you got it fixed. Wow, One day shipping. Amazon has been a let down lately. I have Prime, but it has taken over one week for most items these days.

I was shocked too. The prime 2 day shipping was taking a week a while ago. I ordered a new battery case from getfpv so I’ll have a spare. Nothing like going out to fly and only getting one flight in. I will preform the surgery right away on the new case. It’s only a matter of time before those stock cables go bad.

After your Amazon post, I got to thinking why it is taking so long for my packages. So I change my shipping address to my house and everything is 2 days shipping again. When I ship to my business, it is over a week. Tried a few different local zip code and the shipping days are all over the place even though they are only a few miles away. Really weird.
