FAQ for ImmersionRC Vortex Mini Quad
#1
There are a lot of questions about the vortex out there, and most of them have been asked many times already.

Check out the Immersion RC website first:
http://www.immersionrc.com/fpv-products/...cing-quad/

Vortex Frequently Asked Questions:

I have connected my reciever now what?
- fusion will walk you through a setup wizard on screen... It'll ask you to move the sticks you want to use for what function etc and set up everything for you.
- No need to connect to the computer at all.

What Camera is included with the Vortex?
 - FatShark 600TVL CMOS- The flight camera can be tilted for pilot preferred view in fast forward flight.

What motors does the Vortex have?
- The racing version will have a variation of the Tmotor MN1806 2300kV
- The motors for the entry level version have not been announced yet
- The first batch that is being released is the racing version

What is included with the Vortex?
- 1x Ready to fly Vortex quadcopter (add your own receiver, and battery)
- 1x Crashkit 1 (the plastic parts)
- 1x Set of 5x3 propellers
- 1x Spironet Transmitter antenna

What makes the Vortex so special over other available quadcopters?
- It is an ARF quadcopter (receiver ready)
- It features a Graphical OSD (think Vector and BrainFPV)
- It integrates NAZE32 electronics with Immersion RC FPV products
- It comes pretuned with optional tuning configurations so you don't have to spend time tweaking settings to get it to fly well
- If you are into tweaking, you can do so using the OSD and stick commands in the field, no need to connect it to a computer to adjust your PIDs- There are multiple OSD displays to chose from
- The ESCs have custom features
- The FC runs Cleanflight- It has RGB LED array at the back of the frame for higher visibility when flying or racing with friends.

Will the reciever that I already have work?
- PPM > Servo plug supplied
- SBUS > cheap converter cable needed
- Spectrum satellite > cheap converter cable needed
- Any other RX > PWM to PPM encoder needed

What is the power output of the VTx?
- The VTx is reported to output 350mW (25.4dBm)

What is so special about the ESCs?
- Custom 12A ESCs (16A Peak), with OneShot125, and regenerative braking, for crisp-responsive flight using CleanFlight. A 32-bit ARM processor runs each ESC, ensuring plenty of processing power to drive even the most fussy brushless motors.
- These ESCs are the first worldwide to use our unique rotorSENSE, which programs prop direction with the flick of a finger. No more swapping motor wires.
- ESCs so thin, that they fit completely into the arm tubes, protected from the elements, and the occasional passing tree

Can I mount my HD camera?
- Yes
- As racing quads approach race-speeds, HD cameras have a habit of recording very high definition footage of… the ground. Two optional kits available for the Vortex provide a recliner for the GoPro, or an incliner for the Mobius camera.
- These kits are shipped with the appropriate rubber dampers, and in the case of the GoPro kit, also a plug-and-play power cable, to allow the GoPro to be powered without an internal battery (and it’s unwanted weight).
- Stock it comes with the flat hd cam mount on the rubber isolators. The Gopro recliner and the Mobius incliner are sold separately as optional extras.

My GoPro Battery Life Sucks... Can it be powered from the Vortex?
- Yes
- An on-board 3 Amp, 5V switching regulator keeps the electronics fed with a clean supply, with enough left over to power a GoPro, Mobius, or any other camera which requires a clean 5V supply.

Several OSD layouts are included in the package:
- A classical EzOSD-type layout, with all critical parameters available on-screen.
- A Heads-Up display which would be more at home in a fighter-jet, with artificial horizon and altitude indicator.
- A Race layout, with just the critical parameters, tucked around the edges of the display.
- A Gaming layout… we’ll explain that one just before launchAll OSD layouts include screen-center alerts for critical warnings, such as battery voltage, EzUHF Link Critical, etc.

What battery should I buy for the Vortex?
- It depends... how are you going to fly it.
- For racing 4s 1300-1800mAh depending on payload (5x3 or 5x4 props)
- For general flying 3s 1300-2200mAh depending on payload (5x3, 5x4, 6x3, 6x4 props)
- Smaller batteries for larger payloads, flight performance will suffer the heavier the all up weight is.
- Get the highest C rating battery you feel comfortable buying.

Does the Vortex come with the HD camera mounts?
- The website says that the mounts are options... to me this means that they are add-ons and need to be purchased separately. I don't have any details about how much they cost and/or if they will be available right away.

NOTE: I do not have a Vortex (yet), the above information was gathered from Facebook groups, RCgroups, FPVLab forums and the information on the Immersion RC website.
