For anyone considering this build, you can pick up all the parts including the WS VTX for under $170 (using their spring sale $20 off coupon). Also no soldering required, VTX should just plug into the FC, changing the plug voltage will require some soldering but is optional. So far the build is holding up really well. Even took some tumbles across the pavement without issue. https://youtu.be/1f-RWtu9jUQ?t=208 • Posts: 2,456 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 1,367 in 1,023 posts Likes Given: 793 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 41 I have no money for new purchases for a bit. Not sure I want a Pavo at the minute either. I have way too many builds on the go right now. Going to have to sit down and solder for a week and build everything in one go. Clear everything, then I can start on new projects. On a side note I do like the HobbyFly RC Store. I've had a few things form them without drama. But i'm also doing something custom (as usual), so mine will be a 3S, running the Darwin 15A AIO and analog, with top mount batteries (probably 350-450's given it's size). Do you have your motors already, both these frames have 3-hole mount, probably not a lot of large 3S motors that you like would fit. Also if you want to top mount the battery, you won't be able to use the TPU prints (hey what a cool spoiler) and i'd be careful the rear slopes down so if your pack is too wide it would get awfully close to the tip of the props depending on your motor height. • Posts: 2,456 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 1,367 in 1,023 posts Likes Given: 793 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 41 Yeah, I bought a set of HM 1102 8500kv. They should work on 3S. As to the top mount bit, was going to remove the annoying front bit above the camera, Nick Burns has a video on customising it somewhere. Was intending to keep the spoiler on the back and tape the fronts together with some duct tape and a piece of thin ply to keep the structural integrity. I have also now discovered how important it is to have good batteries, I have a number of CNHL 2S 550mah batteries and have discovered that they are rather useless those are for my latest 2S 2.5inch build, they have the danger of brown out when pushing the quad hard. I have both Flywoo 750mah and GNB 720mah, no problem using either of those batteries and the flight time is near double of the CNHL, I only purchased the CNHL batteries as they were cheap for a set of 4 batteries at the time - to be fair I had the CNHL batteries for over a year, and done heaps of flying with them. • Posts: 1,755 Threads: 61 Likes Received: 1,027 in 741 posts Likes Given: 97 Joined: Jan 2023 Reputation: 53 I don't know why, I have some CNHL 2S 450 and they were terrible (very short flight time) maybe a bad batch? Whereas I love their 3S 450/550 HV packs, used them hundreds of cycles and still give decent flight times and not to mention they go on sale for $3!! My GNB 2S packs (520/600/660) are great when new (they are the lightest weight and give the longest flight times), but probably 50% of them have gone bad after just 1 or 2 seasons. So unfortunately they are not just low weight, but low C, and low durability. And I see the Pico has dropped further to $70 now.... I am tempted to try one paired with a Flylens85 frame and see how well the 1102 motors will do for the heavier 27g frame. • Posts: 2,456 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 1,367 in 1,023 posts Likes Given: 793 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 41 CNHL 2S 450 are a bit of a short flight, at least the HV ones i have are. But as much as they are junk, they still fly for around 3 mins. But they aren't a patch on my preferred 2S Lipo, the GNB 660 HV, but then I got six of the CNHL for the cost of pretty much two 660's so can't really complain. But yes the 3S packs are much better. The 2S 650 isn't too bad, but somewhat heavier than the GNB 660. Over here, one GNB 2S 660 HV is about £7. I paid about £12 for six of the CNHL 450's, so wasn't expecting them to be brilliant.
