Diatone GTR90v2,,,Blown esc board?
#1
Was flying my Diatone GTR90v2 early this morning at the local Golf Course. The grass was wet with dew.
I had to land in a hurry as Golfers were wanting to Tee Off. I landed in wet/dewy grass and flipped over.
The quad got a bit wet. When I went to fly it again, it made a long musical series of beeps and wouldn't arm.
I took it home and let it dry thoroughly.  I tried to fire it up a few hours later. The quad arms now, but only the #2 motor spins.
The FC shows up in BetaFlight and everything seems OK there. The VTX and receiver are working.
I think I may have Bricked my 4 in one esc board. Is there a way I can be certain its the ESC and not also the FC?

Have you double-checked that no crud has got in between the boards on the stack and is causing a short circuit?

I take it that you've tried running up each of the motors separately in the "Motors" tab of the Betaflight Configurator? If you haven't then I suggest you try that first. Obviously take the props off when you do this. If doing this still only spins up motor #2, then to confirm or eliminate it as being an FC issue, run the BLHeli Suite software (you can download it using this link) and test out each motor using the "Motors" tab in that. Using BLHeli Suite to control the motors does so directly from the ESC instead of via the FC as is what happens when you test the motors from the Betaflight Configurator. If you can also only get motor #2 to spin up when using BLHeli Suite, you know the problem is with the ESC or the motors and not the FC.

Project Blue Falcon (RIP) has a good video on how to use BLHeli Suite software if you're not familiar with it...

Thanks SnowLeopardFPV........
Yes I looked for contaminating Crud and found nothing. ( haven't disassembled the Flight Stack yet though)
Yes I tried to run the motors (no props) through BetaFlight. Only motor #2 functions when I do that.
I down loaded BLHeli Suite from the  link you provided. When I connected my quad, only the #2 esc was recognized.
#2 was recognized as Master and the other 3 esc's were not seen. I was able to run motor #2 without a problem.
My next step will be to separate the flight stack and swap motors around to see if they are working.
The evidence is looking strongly like my 4 in 1 esc is Toast. I'm hoping the remaining 3 motors are still ok.
I'm still pretty new with Quads and this is the first time I've used BLHeli Suite. (It took me a few minutes and a couple extra watched  videos to get it working Smile )
I can see it is going to be a handy tool!
Thanks Again!!

I guess in the words of JB, you learned something today Big Grin

It's unfortunate about the ESC but it should be fairly easily replaceable. Hopefully the motors are all OK.

Sorry, have to ask the question everyone's thinking about. Why are you flying at a golf course where people are trying to tee off?? The course is obviously open and I'm sure you don't have permission to fly there.
Dude, where's my quad?

A Fair Question......Its a Public Course with walk on access from a number of different points. I actually fly from a parking lot adjacent to the ninth Hole of  the course. I get there before Dawn. I usually get at least an hour of flight time before the first golfers even show up. I leave as soon as the first party reaches the Hole where I fly. This one time these Early birds surprised me as they came up over the hill. So,,,,, I landed post haste. I never fly over Golfers, or anyone else for that matter. Also, I know the people who manage the Course on the weekends, (I like to Golf too,) and I have a wink wink nod nod tacet permission, so long as I generate no complaints.

Yep.....So I swapped my motors around to ESC#2 and they are all working OK. Good news for me.

All I need to replace is my 4 in 1 ESC.

Hello!

Could conformal coating prevent the ESC burn? Does anyone use any conformal coating?

There are two types of conformal coating, Silicone and Acrylic. Silicone is usually thicker and easier to remove. Acrylic is thinner and dries very hard..I looked closely at the New ESC. It actually has a thin acrylic coating over most of the components, but it looked unevenly applied and the solder pads (of course) were not coated.
I actually thought about applying a thicker acrylic conformal coating after assembly, but decided not to do it. I thought it might inhibit heat dissipation of the chips. I figure its easier to just find dry spots to land.
