What is meant by d-term oscillation?
Can I watch on frame or Blackbox, for example?

You change the target by increasing or decreasing the P term. D is the spring that helps the P from overshooting. So D is the shock absorber. If you have a soft spring like a Cadillac you have a comfortable ride. However if you increase the spring to stiffen the ride you get a race car that is really hard on the body but it works when you have larger impact/disturbance. However if you have the spring too stiff it will no longer have the shock absorbing effect but it bounces back and forth instead. That would be D term oscillation. When I tune PID back in the days before BetaFlight and black box I just watch the quad during a hover. On a quad you can see hunting when the P term is too high. The oscillation is usually lower frequency but higher amplitude. When the D term is too high you will see a much faster oscillation like a buzz. The oscillation is a much higher frequency and hopefully lower amplitude. 11-Apr-2024, 10:06 PM (11-Apr-2024, 09:52 PM)SeismicCWave Wrote: https://controlstation.com/blog/the-d-in...sometimes/ Nice, question: Can I distinguish between a high P or a D without a blackbox? 11-Apr-2024, 10:21 PM (This post was last modified: 11-Apr-2024, 10:23 PM by SeismicCWave.) Neither scenario make use of the black box in Betaflight. For that matter I have not need to use the black box feature in BetaFlight yet. I think you may be over thinking too much. 11-Apr-2024, 10:46 PM (11-Apr-2024, 10:21 PM)SeismicCWave Wrote: Huh? I thought I specifically mentioned I used to tune PID by watching the quad in a hover. So my guess is that it's a statement and those are just 3 unrecognised emojis on the end. 12-Apr-2024, 07:28 PM (This post was last modified: 12-Apr-2024, 07:29 PM by SeismicCWave.) I still have a hard time with my phone and I am trying to explain PID. 12-Apr-2024, 07:57 PM 12-Apr-2024, 07:58 PM (12-Apr-2024, 12:56 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: If someone is using mobile device that is making use of emojis that are native to the device that the forum doesn't understand, those unrecognised unicode characters get converted to question marks.
