12 Do you think it is possible that GoPro could upgrade their existing cameras or create a future camera model that would turn it into a remote ID module?
Thoughts?

786 10-Jan-2021, 12:54 AM (This post was last modified: 10-Jan-2021, 12:56 AM by SnowLeopardFPV.) I honestly don't think GoPro have any interest in the FPV hobby, and certainly not enough to sink the time and money needed to develop something specifically to cater for Remote ID. They would have to recoup their costs in doing that and their largest user base are people in the sports and outdoor activity sector who aren't going to want to pay a higher price for a camera because it contains a feature that is only useful to 1% or less of GoPro's customers who use them for FPV. I guess it's always possible that pigs might fly.
On the other hand, I would say that someone like RunCam, Caddx or Foxeer might be more interested in doing something like this because it would then also put their FPV HD cameras closer on par with features offered by GoPro if they were to include a gyro, GPS and WiFi. And those companies do actually have a vested interest in the FPV hobby, unlike GoPro.

786 BetaFPV are known for producing small and sub-250g quads in the FPV world so they need a camera which is as light as possible and they therefore won't be interested in developing anything that requires Remote ID. With all the electronics needed in a standalone Remote ID module (GPS module, WiFi module, control board, and self-contained battery), realistically it is going to weight at least 50g and that is just too much extra weight to put on a sub-250g quad.
If Insta360 have an exclusive agreement with BetaFPV then that also prevents any other interested parties trying to muscle in and get a piece of the action. So unless Insta360 want to break ties with BetaFPV to work with other companies such as iFlight, GEPRC or Diatone to name but a few, then I think it's probably unlikely that Insta360 will have the appetite to do something off their own back around Remote ID.

139 Honestly i don't see that happening. They didn't even bother to make a camera for FPV, let alone going through all the legal trouble and putting their brand at risk if something goes wrong just for this.
