Capacitor Touching Frame
#1
Hi

Is it okay for a capacitor on the ESC's to come into contact with the carbon fiber frame

No. But not for the reasons you likely think. If there's give, it may vibrate against the frame which in turn could get to your gyro. However, it will not short circuit.

I use a bit of double-sided tape under mine so it wont move.

There is really NO problem with the capacitor touching any electrically
conductive surface such as the frame. In fact, the capacitor is often
zip tied to a part of the frame somewhere.

I often use "extension" wires which
1) allow you to place the capacitor where you need it.
2) reduce vibration to the FC which could effect the gyro.

Just to clarify- make sure that the metal leads coming out of the capacitor do not touch the frame. That will short.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Yes, any exposed electrical leads will short the capacitor.
Although I see a lot of builders just solder the leads bare, just as they are.
If I am not adding an extension, then I will use heat shrink on the leads
if they are very long, just to avoid shorting out. Yeah, been there, done that, it ain't fun.

its not good if a soft mounted stack get unsoft from a touching capacitator, some force to the stack. a picture could give an impression?

ii would second all: double side tape to minimize vivrations, wire extensions for the capacitator to solve vibrations coming tobthe stack. wire extensions are always an improvement, short 2mm capacitator legs does improve the capacitators work

One of first quads I built - 5" 6S.
Big 1000uF just hanging out the back.

After crash, legs touched CF frame, huge sparks, and half Mamba 4in1 ESC went up in flames. Scary.
