Binding TX16S with GepRC Rocket Plus w/DJI Air Unit
#1
Sorry if this has already been addressed, but after a search I was coming up empty.

This is my first FPV and I am trying to bind the Rocket Plus to the TX16S.  I have searched all over looking for a thread or tutorial, but have been coming up lost.  Is there a place that explains how to bind the drone to the controller.  I was able to get the drone to connect to the goggles and can see the picture just fine, but cannot get the drone and controller to bind together.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Does the quad have a receiver in it? The RocketPlus comes in different versions depending on what controller you are using.

Here is a video going over how to set up and bind with a TX16s

Yes...It came with a DJI Air Unit.  I watched that video as well, but it doesn't list the DJI receiver.  I must be looking in the wrong place.

It sounds like you bought the version of the GEPRC Rocket Plus "with DJI Receiver" option which only comes with the Air Unit and not an additional external receiver. If you buy it like that you cannot just bind any transmitter to the quad. You specifically need the DJI Controller V1 (black version) transmitter. Alternatively you can buy an external receiver that is natively compatible with your TX16S transmitter (FrSky XM+ or R-XSR) and solder that in.

Thank you for the information.  I believe you are correct.  Since I have the DJI Receiver already can I install a FRSky XM+ on my drone or will this affect the Air Unit?  I purchased an XM+ receiver and it should be here on Friday.  I am curious if I can just solder it into the unit or do I have to do something special since I have the DJI version of the GepRC Rocket Plus.

The DJI receiver in the Air Unit will just become redundant if you use an external receiver.

The FC for the GEPRC Rocket Plus only has two UARTs. One is being used for the MSP data connection to the Air Unit and the other one is being used for the SBUS receiver connection (currently wired to the Air Unit). You will therefore need to remove (desolder) the SBUS wiring between the FC and the Air Unit which will is usually the brown and yellow wires but check the Air Unit connector pinout in case colours are different. Then you will need to solder the XM+ to 5V, GND and the SBUS connection to the same pad on the FC that the yellow SBUS wire of the Air Unit was originally connected to. That is all you need to do and once your TX16S is bound to the XM+ it should just work.

Thank you for that information.  It was extremely helpful.  I have a new receiver arriving tomorrow and with the info you gave I should be able to get to flying.  Since I am new to the sport I felt so lost, but today I feel like I really learned something and can get this quad in the air.  Which was way better than having to buy a new one because I didn't understand something.

Thank you for you help SnowLeopardFPV!!!!!
