Betafpv Meteor75 Pro - good BNF experience
#1
I know there are a lot of complaints about Betafpv quality, but I had a pleasant experience with their Meteor75 Pro BNF and thought I'd share. Most of my drones are scratch builds, and mostly open props, so this was a little different.

From unboxing to flying was the quickest I've ever experienced.
1. Throw the 2 included batteries on the included quick charger
2. Bind to ELRS 2.X radio
This involved plugging the flight controller into a USB cable and power cycle it twice to go into bind mode. Then hit bind in the LUA script on the radio. If you have a 3.X radio, then you would have to flash the receiver firmware instead.
(2b. As I use the non-default TAER channel mapping, an extra step to set that in the BF radio tab)
3. Set the VTX band/channel in BF (this is optional, you could use the default settings or change it in the BF OSD)
4. Plug in the charged battery and FLY!!!

Not a review, but just some notes.

+ Everything was included to get you in the air, just need a controller and goggles
+ $110 MSRP and <$99 on sale, great value and includes 2 x batteries, quick charger, and a set of spare props
+ Real BNF experience (if you have an ELRS 2.X radio, a little more work if you are on 3.X)
+ Whoop is all set up out of the box, even props are already installed
+ Comes with a nice flyable tune

- The camera angle is fixed by the mounting bracket and the default one is quite an aggressive angle (not for beginners). Two additional mounts are included, but you need to remove the canopy to change them.
- The battery connecter cable is just a little short, making plugging/unplugging the longer packs a little fussy. You will have to slide the pack forward to plug in, then slide it back after.
- I did not find any instructions, manuals, or tutorials provided by Betafpv for steps to get this in the air, so for someone new to drones that is not very friendly, but sure there must be Youtube tutorials out there.
- I did lose the bind once, and had to re-bind it. Not sure if I accidentally power cycled it into bind mind when fussing with the plugs.

The battery life felt a little short, hitting 3.5v in 3 minutes and maybe getting 3.5 to 4 minutes if you are willing to go down closer to 3.1v. Betafpv includes 550mah 1S packs, but they are not HV. Might try some different batteries or even go with bi-blades.

I saw some reviews that the C03 camera was pretty mediocre, but so far it seems ok and has a clean clear view.

The BetaFPV batteries are mediocre. They work and get you in the air, but you will want something better if you want decent flight time. I use the Dogcom batteries and they are better. Someone on another thread said they managed to get hold of Tattu with a BT2.0 which I suspect would be even better. But it depends what you have available. I got a bunch of 450 Dogcom 1S for about £2/lipo from one of the UK suppliers a few months back (and I did clear them out to the tune of 15 Lipos).

Glad you had a good experience. I've never had an issue with anything BetaFPV, althoughthe 12A FC on my Meteor85 did finally die 14 months after I bought it and crashed it many times, but it's not unexpected after all that abuse.

Sounds like you got a good deal. I see the Tattus with BT2.0, but price here is too steep... same as what I paid for my 4S 450 HV packs Cry !!

I see the same one on Aliexpress for half the price, maybe give those a try instead.

My Meteor75 Pro is, by far, my favorite drone.  I had to upgrade ELRS to v3, but that was easy by using the wifi method.

The stock 550 mAh batteries work fine.  I get a 3.5 minute flight time out of them.  The BT2.0 connectors are the only way to go.  Since I am still a beginner, I fly outdoors in a big field with gentle flying.  They handle light winds (<10 mph) with ease.

My Meteor75pro 2S (FC HM SuperX, HM 1102 8500kv, pwm switch for Walksnail Avatar 1S Lite) with VTX turned off hangs in one place in the room for 8 (eight) minutes on two gnb 1s hv 380mah batteries, 06:40 on two gnb 1s batteries hv 300mah.
(dry weight 41.09 grams without battery)

The 2S version is my favourite. Kinda wondering if I could build a 3S version of it. On HM 1102 8500kv, it might be possible. The kv is pretty on point for 3S.

Ok had a lot of fun with this quad trying to learn to do some new tricks. So far it has taken a lot of abuse, knocking into trees wedged in branches, smacked into the pavement and turtling out of tall grass. Hope I am not speaking too soon. I am quite impressed with its ability to turtle/take off in grass/leaves, not all the time but definitely most of the times. Makes it so much easier when you are trying out new things, don't have to keep going to pick up the quad every few seconds.
I took out a 75mm 0802 whoop, and unfortunately that mostly would not even take off in grass, and seems I killed an ESC after just a few turtle attempts. I forgot that it is a bad idea to try to turtle whoops in grass...
The battery also seems to be running longer? Maybe the motors and battery needs some run in...

@Lipofly how are you mounting the batteries? Did you cut the tray or add TPU/rubber bands?

So what tricks are you learning, mstc? Or is it a secret until you release the video?

Haha no secrets, just some simply yawing and flying backwards. Like I said anything not moving forward is very foreign to my flying brain. I see Nick Burns do this move once in a while in his videos, fly past a try look up and then fly back out backwards on the other side. One pilot mentioned picking a point of reference and locking your sights onto that to guide your movements, I think that helps. I don't know if it has a name. And then there is the trippy spin... but yeah I wouldn't hold your breath for any video release... it could take me a long while to learn to do it on command and with any amount of precision. Happy to share some crummy dvr practice footage if you want to get nauseated Big Grin

Flying backwards is fun, turning while flying backwards, that's kinda hard though. One of my favourite variations is to half pendulum from going backwards. Basically go backwards, get some speed, pitch forwards and give it some more beans, then when you are looking straight down cut throttle and if you want some artistic flair, do a couple of spins, then comeback down and pull out of it. The other variation from that is to do a reverse loop by staying on the throttle until you fully loop. Neither of those are all that hard to do but look pretty sweet. Stalls are good too, but you have to get the timing right to pull out and fly backwards after doing them.

The trick you mention where you fly past a tree and almost turn and fly backwards out is I guess one of these.

I'd be interested to see. This is definitely the place for crummy dvr.

Tried some real world trippy spins today. I think one of these might qualify as the first real success I had at it. Going to take a lot to refine it or make it smaller/tip back with more speed to see more of the subject.
This is a move that I find a lot easier in the sim than in real life, but the scale of the space has a lot to do with it.

I can't trippy spin to save my life. I've tried a few times. It's easiest to practice on lamp posts. To do it on trees you have to be very accurate with the throttle and stay in the same area or risk hitting branches. I don't have the throttle control yet to really do it. I think when I can do really good orbits, then that will be the ideal time to master trippy spins.

@pathfinder Thanks yes the trick I am trying to learn is the "boomerang". So many tricks to learn!! As I was telling @fpvme, old dogs don't really learn new tricks, but maybe it happens sometimes, slowly for sure and one at a time.

I am coming to like the image on the C03, I can see quite well, maybe even better than the Caddx Ant? I dug out my older whoops, I think they had Nano 2, C02 or C01?, some other ancient whoop cameras, and boy their image were all really bad and now I remember why I never flew them.

@fpvme Nice definitely see the start of a trippy, you just need to work on holding it all the way around the tree before hitting something Big Grin
Is that on 1S?

Ok here is the dvr from two flights, both flown 4-5 minutes down to 3.3v. There are some diagonal lines from the DVR, probably should have shielded the wires when I installed it.

WARNING: Lots of dizzying yawing, crashing, turtling - for slightly more normal flying jump to the 6 minute mark.

lol. I *really* need to work on new lines and tricks. I was hitting the sim pretty hard this spring, looking forward to summer flying but kinda' stalled out. I can get into a trippy spin, somewhat reliably, in the sim. Not quite there in real life though. There's an attempt at 3:20 in this vid. I got up too high. I was buzzing my neighbor with an early glow-in-the-dark moblite7 with triblades and a lightweight canopy. Flogging one of the original 850 mah cells it came with...
