I just keep getting a solid light, but know it is not the wiring as other quads (With TBS GPS) are wired exactly the same and are working. What GPS units do people use and does anyone else have issues with the TBS GPS M8.2 unit. Thanks Nejo • Posts: 21,188 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,930 in 6,606 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 What colour is the solid light, and do you see the GPS icon showing in Betaflight Configurator? I only have a GPS module on one of my quads which is a Matek M8Q-5883. It's one of the more expensive GPS modules but it has worked perfectly for me without issues and gets a 3D satellite fix reasonably quickly. I also just bought another as a spare or to go on the next GPS enabled build that I do. Its a solid red light and no GPS icon in betaflight, although I do have it will another quad that i have the TBS on and its fine. The same ququad connects with a flywoo mini GPS. I have GPS on all of my quads, as I like to know how fast they are going. • Posts: 21,188 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,930 in 6,606 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 (29-Sep-2021, 06:29 PM)Nejo_FPV Wrote: Its a solid red light and no GPS icon in betaflight, although I do have it will another quad that i have the TBS on and its fine. It's not clear from your statement above if you already did this, but have you tried that same suspect GPS module on one of your other quads to confirm or eliminate an issue with the GPS module itself? • Posts: 87 Threads: 15 Likes Received: 5 in 4 posts Likes Given: 43 Joined: Apr 2021 Reputation: 1 (29-Sep-2021, 08:14 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: It's not clear from your statement above if you already did this, but have you tried that same suspect GPS module on one of your other quads to confirm or eliminate an issue with the GPS Yeah I have tried it and its defo the GPS modules, but its 2 of them, so was looking for aosomething a little more reliable. I dont mind paying a bit extra, as long as they work. I will have a look at the Matek ones. • Posts: 21,188 Threads: 582 Likes Received: 8,930 in 6,606 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 786 In that case it does sound like a dead module unfortunately. Be aware that some of the GPS modules can be sensitive to voltage spikes from a 5V supply and it is better to connect them to a 3.3V supply if they will run on 3.3V. So maybe the regulators on those duff GPS units just got fried from the 5V supply on of the FC. I have it hooked up to a 5v pad on the speedybee f7v2, but I think it has a 3.3v pad, so could try that instead. I got one of my quads out that has a working GPS and disconnected the GPS, tried it on another quad and it was working. So I then proceeded to try a 3 other TBS M8.2 on the same working quad and NONE worked, not one of the 3. I then tried a flywoo mini v2 GPS and that worked as well. What are the chances that 1 worked and 3 didnt..............on the same quad. Either TBS QC is really bad or well, I dont know lol Hopefully that makes sense, it did in my head ha Posts: 87 Threads: 15 Likes Received: 5 in 4 posts Likes Given: 43 Joined: Apr 2021 Reputation: 1 (29-Sep-2021, 08:30 PM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: In that case it does sound like a dead module unfortunately. Snow, just thought I would let you and everyone else know, I purchased 2 Matek SAM-MQ8 modules and both connected within seconds. It turns out that 3 out of 4 of the TBS M8-2 GPS were not working. I know this sounds unlikely, but I did buy them all at the same time from the same retailer, so may be in was a bad batch. 1 out of 4 work correctly, all tried on the same quad, so I know it is not the wiring. I am not saying that TBS is bad, I may have just been unlucky, but I will be buying the slightly more expensive modules in the future. • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 I think TBS just rebrands those GPS units or gets someone else to make them. If 3 out of 4 are bad then ask TBS for a replacement/refund. • |
