Just use NiMH rechargeables the Low Self Discharge type. This is my preference for transmitters. Lipo's don't like being kept fully charged all the time. You can't kill NiMH by over discharging them. NiMH are cheap so easy to have spares. The best bit is they don't drop voltage suddenly at the end so your transmitter doesn't do a 'Low battery warning' then shut down 5 seconds later. The downside is that NiMH don't like being topped up and need to be run fairly low between charges. Replaces the AA battery tray and fits well. https://www.amazon.com/Blomiky-2000mAh-B...ne+battery • Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 I have 12 rechargable AAs. I use 2 sets of the "Plus" for the X7 as they are 2400mAh AAs. Not a big fan of Energizer, the bunny is cute though • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 I have found the 18650 mod to work great. We have a lot of those cells around the house for flashlights and such. The battery case was a couple of dollars through ebay. I think the cable is an old battery connector cable that had the opposite side of the battery plug. The only issue is the battery compartment door will not clip in all the way with the case I bought. It is pretty thick. It could easily be modified, but in the last 7 months flying with it that way, never an issue. I charge the cells separately as all of our other devices use singles. You could solder together a pack of two with a charging lead and forgo the case. This would allow for the cover to secure in correctly. For me, a set of cells will last at least a week of my average flying, about 2-5 packs per day with a long day in there somewhere SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! I may try that for my Spektrum DX7S. • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 3"(L) x 1-5/8"(W) x 3/4"(H). It is about a 1/16" too tall to allow my QX7 cover to clip in correctly. If you battery tray is a little deeper than the Taranis, you should be good to go! The DX7S tray is exactly 3" wide, and a little larger in the other two dimensions. Thanks Kaity, I may give this a shot. I think I’m going to do this setup, and just get a single charger and have a few plus spares. The aa I have now get me about 2 days with it dying out somewhere around day 2. I now fly velocidrone daily for several hours so that’s part of the issue, but until my 5” comes back I have nothing but a whoop and a 2” to fly, and I just super smashed my 2” frame (still works!) so I’ve been mostly velocidroneing and killing these batteries. That pink case is sweet btw Posts: 209 Threads: 20 Likes Received: 88 in 69 posts Likes Given: 42 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 2 • |
