Asigning VTX power to a potentiometer -
#1
The steps are pretty straight forward, it assumes you have your VTX table already set up and IRC Tramp or TBS SmartAudio working correctly.

I set up a potentiometer (S2) on the radio and assign it in the mixer.

Determine the channel it is on, you can use the cheat sheet below.

I assigned S2 on my radio to CH11.  This means that it shows up as AUX7 in Betaflight configurator.  When editing the VTX
lines in the CLI, we will be assigning the functions to 6 in my setup.  Yours will vary depending on what channel you set up in your radio.\\

My VTX has 5 power levels.  I assign a range for each by editing my VTX table in CLI.  VTX 0 is assigned to channel 6 and corresponds to VTX power level 1 (25mw).  The range on is set between 900 and 1100 (fully counter-clockwise).  The next power level, 100mw, is set at between 1100 and 1300 which is about 10:30 in terms of knob position.  200mw is this VTX's mid power and it is accessed with S2 is read at between 1300 and 1700.  As I turn S2 Clockwise on my radio, the VTX shifts its power to correspond to.  My VTX in the example is IRC Tramp based, but this works with SmartAudio as well.

I can now change my VTX power in flight by simply turning S2.  No need to land.  You can also assign a three position switch, but you would only have three possible power selections.

Awesome tutorial! Do you get any feedback in the OSD what power level you currently are on?

You can also set up the 6-position switch on a Jumper T16 / RadioMaster TX16S to do the same. JB did a video on it about a month ago...

Yes. I have the OSD widget for VTX enabled. Works perfect.

A purpose for the buttons!  I started using this method a while ago, was a bit to figure out but not that bad.  Glad he did a video on it.

Very cool. I set up 6 flight modes on the chicken feet buttons of my TX16S. I hadn't thought about VTX power.
This is a noob question - I just set my VTX to max on all my quads and have a switch for pit mode. What is the reason you'd want different power levels?

The reason for me is that in my yard, I have areas where multipathing is excessive at higher output powers.  Flying at 25mw is better in close than higher outputs, so having it on a low setting is preferred, but then I fly a few hundred meters away and having higher output works better.

I am also heat conscious when it comes to my VTX's.  They all get really hot when they are at max power, so why stress them needlessly?  I can fly them all at lower levels and when I need more signal, I just up the output to the next level.
