Not a lot of people are aware of this, but you can actually upload your frame design to Armattan Productions and have them cut it for you. They even supply some good quality hardware (bolts, standoffs, etc) and a template to setup an online store to sell your design. While I don't really expect to sell this frame, I figured I'd set up an online store anyway. You can check it our here: https://armattanproductions.com/pages/kit_detail/646 The CF quality is excellent. It really did seem like I bought another Armattan frame. Here's some photos of the frame I designed. I really wanted a frame that can protect all the hardware (even 30a esc). There's also a place for an hd camera. Maybe the extra weight on this frame can make up for not needing any 3d printed parts. Anyway, I'm super happy with how this turned out. The frame is super solid. Maybe some of you guys can design your own frames too! Nice job! that frame looks really good! What prop size is that? I like that it is designed around the mobius style cameras! not many of those these days • Posts: 328 Threads: 76 Likes Received: 191 in 85 posts Likes Given: 39 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 16 Thanks! I like the Möbius style cameras, they are light. This is a 5 inch frame. • Posts: 203 Threads: 39 Likes Received: 42 in 32 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Jul 2016 Reputation: 2 That is a nice looking frame! What did you use to design the frame? Where do you upload frame designs to them? • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 (10-Feb-2017, 05:08 PM)jamesw Wrote: Where do you upload frame designs to them? Hey guys, I saw a kickstarter campaign for a fixed wing platform called 'carbon flyer' which looked like a CF paper plane with motors and I think wifi control via smartphone app... I have just received my Powerup FPV which is a unit that clips onto an (A3) paper plane, streams live image to a smartphone, the phone can be put into a google cardboard goggle and control of the plane is through movement of the phone, so look up to fly higher and tilt your head left or right to perform banked turns... So the point of this into is to find out - if you know if there is a minimum thickness to the CF that Armattan will cut, eg. 0.3mm or 0.5mm to make a more resilient 'paper' plane? I would also like to add prop guards and maybe some protection for the camera which sticks worryingly out of the top of the body... I did have a look at the tutorial pages on the armattan website but the tut pages are all empty / not built yet... Edit to add - Sorry, side-tracked with my own question, TrojanGoat your Chimera looks as good as the TVR! And to ask - Scotty did you manage to get your armattan frame in the air yet? • Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 Tom, the thinnest they offer publicly is 1mm. However they have something called "incognito services" with "other thicknesses" available. See this in the FAQ: https://armattanproductions.com/pages/pa...reyouoffer When you click on the "incognito services" link, it takes you to a blank page - so I guess you are expected to contact them for special requests. And no, not in the air - still working on the pod design. What's the most powerful motor money can buy these days? • Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 I saw some agricultural motors from T-motor on flite test the other day that looked like they were 100mm x 50 or 60mm up to 12s, 100kv with props that cost $150 each and are about 4 feet long! I guess you're talking about motors for 5" props though? Here I will do my impression of Manuel from Faulty Towers "I know naating!" Seems very efficient and got lots of power. • |
