After upgrading ELRS RX/TX to 3.2.1 the control went crazy.
#1
Hello all!
Please help me solve the problem, I can not figure it out myself for 24 hours (I am new to this hobby).

iFlight Nazgul Evoque F5 quadcopter, BETAFPV ELRS Nano TX transmitter (2.4GHz) on LiteRadio3, BETAFPV ELRS Nano receiver.

I updated the firmware on the receiver and transmitter to 3.2.1 through the ExpressLRS Configurator. I set up a way to communicate between them via Binding_Phrase. Trouble is, now when the quadcopter binds to the remote, it sends completely incorrect signals to it. Or I just don't understand what's going on.

In the BetaFlight Configurator on the "Receiver" tab, the drone is spinning like crazy and doesn't respond to stick and toggle switches. This happens exactly when the remote is on. If you turn it off, it stops.

That is, the quadcopter binds to the remote control, but then it all works completely wrong.
My controller is calibrated correctly and before updating RX/TX to 3.2.1 everything was working correctly.

I don't understand what the problem might be. I've been searching the internet all day and can't figure it out. If someone knows how to fix it, please advise.
Thanks in advance for the help and answers!

It sounds like your channel map might have somehow gotten messed up.

On the receiver tab in betaflight, under the channel map, it should be set to the betaflight default of AETR1234.

Double check that, and make sure that you transmitter channel map matches as well. You’ll need to connect to your literadio with the BetaFPV Configurator to check it.

Other than that, maybe try reflashing your receiver after double checking that you are using the correct target.
Dangerous operations.

On the receiver tab in betaflight under the channel map I have AETR1234 installed. I have tried working with this but it doesn't allow me to fix the situation.

Literadio in BETAFPV Configurator works absolutely correctly.

Maybe it's really about the firmware and the target...
To create the firmware for BETAFPV ELRS Nano receiver I use {Device category: BETAFPV 2.4 GHz; Device: BETAFPV Nano 2400 RX}

To generate the firmware for the BETAFPV ELRS Nano TX transmitter (external module) I use: {Device category: BETAFPV 2.4 GHz; Device: BETAFPV 24000 TX Nano}

Here is the list of available devices:

I just don't understand what else can fit besides what I choose...

Hrmm. BetaFPV nano 2400 rx is the correct target.

My apologies, but I’m at a loss.
I’m going to suggest that you jump on the ELRS Discord:
https://discord.gg/dS6ReFY

Did you change any settings in betaflight or do anything other than update your transmitter and receiver to ELRS v3.2.1?

What version were you on prior? If you were previously on ELRS v2.x, did you update the lua script on your transmitter to v3?
Dangerous operations.

No, I have not changed any settings in betaflight. Before the update I connected the quadcopter to the remote control by triple powering on and off the USB. And then everything worked perfectly correctly.

Both the receiver and transmitter were just purchased. They had the factory version of the firmware, which was not detected. On the 10.0.0.1 page, when connected via wifi, it showed up as "Firmware Rev. ver.unknown (5c4808)".
I have not worked with the lua script before. And never updated it. Maybe that's the problem and it needs to be updated somehow too?

Is it possible to switch to a lower firmware version and see how everything will work there? Will there be no problems if I reinstall e.g. 2.5.2 on 3.2.1?

Thanks for the Discord channel, I will definitely go there!

If you didn’t update the lua script, that very well might be your problem.

Rolling back your transmitter and receiver to version 2.5.x should get you back in the air, however, if you’d rather get it working on v3, jump in the discord and ask them how to get the v3 lua on your transmitter- I’m don’t have any experience with the literadio or the BetaFPV configurator.

Edit- as a quick side note, if you installed the receiver yourself, did you remember to connect the tx pad of the receiver to the rx pad of the flight controller, and vice versa?
Dangerous operations.

Thank you so much! I'll try to figure out the lua script and write what I got.

I installed the receiver in the service center of the store where I bought it. In the future I will try to install the receivers myself, but for the first time I decided it would be better to do it this way.

At this point it became clear that on the firmware 2.5.2 all works correctly. It didn't fix the problem, but at least now I can fly.
In Discord we came to the conclusion that the problem is most likely in the lua (the same as we realized here). However, in order to work with the lua script on the hardware must be at least a screen.
The other day I will try to buy a Lite Radio 3 Pro and then I will deal with the problem further.

I’m glad you’re in the air.

If you’re going to buy another transmitter, can I suggest something other than another one by BetaFPV?

If you like the game pad style, consider something like the Radiomaster Zorro:
https://oscarliang.com/radiomaster-zorro/

Or the Jumper T-lite v2:
https://oscarliang.com/jumper-t-lite-v2/

FWIW, I’m a big fan of Radiomaster products. They are well built and reliable, and from my experience, they have good customer service/support.

^ this.

Avoid the BetaFPV radios, they are terrible. All of them except for the LR3 Pro use a custom fork of ELRS that is stuck on version 2.0.1 because BetaFPV hasn't bothered updating, and the LR3 Pro build quality is poor. The Jumper T-Lite V2 is superior in every way for less money, and the Radiomaster radios are better all around.

It looks like the firmware versions on your TX and RX do not match. Can you put the TX and RX into WiFi mode and show screenshots of the webui?
https://www.expresslrs.org/quick-start/w...the-web-ui

There were some reports of the BetaFPV TX modules not working properly with ELRS v3.2.x. Have you tried an earlier version, like 3.1.1?

Did you follow the updating instructions here?

I really like the hardware in the form of gamepads. I like the TBS TANGO 2 the most, but it's too expensive for me. Radiomaster Zorro and Jumper T-lite v2 I'm considering too. It's just that on tinywhoop and in simulator I'm used to LR3, that's why I decided LR3Pro would be a reasonable compromise. But yes, I will pay attention to buying the Radiomaster Zorro.

2V-22: Yes, I updated according to expresslrs.org instructions. I didn't try 3.1.1 I went straight to 2.5.2 maybe I should have tried 3.1.1
Unfortunately it will be a bit difficult for me to lay out the screenshots because I already changed the firmware to 2.5.2

But I definitely remember that the RX firmware compiled the same way for different versions is really different by name:
BETAFPV_2400_RX-2.5.2.bin > BETAFPV_Nano_2400_RX-3.2.1.bin
For TX the names are the same:
BETAFPV_2400_TX-2.5.2.bin > BETAFPV_2400_TX-3.2.1.bin
Exactly the same name in the wifi interface window.
I re-created the firmware in ExpressLRS Configurator several times changing only the version and not changing other settings and still for RX the firmware names are different.

How did you flash the TX module? Did you read the note on the top of the guide I linked?

If you want to use ELRS v3, please flash again following the guide and if you still have trouble post the screenshots of the webui.

Yes, I tried to switch now to 3.2.1 firmware exactly according to the guide from 2.5.2 But all the problems remained.
After that I tried to go back to 2.5.2 but now everything doesn't work either. The quadcopter binds, the blue LED lights up with constant light, but... There is no response to either stick or toggle switches in the Betaflight Configurator.

The only difference is that in 3.2.1 the quadcopter in the Betaflight Configurator rotates, but in 2.5.2 it just behaves as if there is no connection.

I tried reinstalling the firmware on 3.1.1 as well, tried doing it without the binding word, installed, returned but all to no avail. Nothing works now.

I am now in a very frustrated state. Yesterday everything was working and I was hoping to make my first flight on Saturday. Now I have no idea how to fix it. Apparently I'll have to take the quadcopter with the remote control and module to the service center, pay money and hope that everything can be fixed without rewiring the new RX module Cry ...

I shouldn't have started touching things that work. I'll never fly like this...((
