Why is it EVERYONE seems to only run Tri-Blades on 5" quads?
Lately I've been trying to find a quieter prop for my 5" FreeStyle quad. On a recommendation I saw in a post somewhere on here, I tried these 4 bladed Props by HQ : https://www.racedayquads.com/collections.../hq-prop-4
And I LOVE THEM! They are slightly smaller than 5" @ 4.8, but with 4 blades at a pitch of 3.4. They are definitely quieter than any 3 blades I have tried, and give great control. I know 4 blades aren't as fast as a tri blade, and a little less efficient, but I think they are amazing. I still get over 5 min flight time of my normal 'flow' type of light freestyle on a 6s 1300mAh lipo. And the best benefit is the sound.
After trying the HQ 4 blades I just ordered a set of these from GemFan : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B094VG...UTF8&psc=1
They are 5.1" Dia, with a higher pitch of 4.55. Haven't gotten them in yet, but I'll report back once I've gotten some stick time on them.
After just realizing how much I love 4 blade props, I started to wonder, why is it I only ever had 3 blade before, and why is it EVERYONE else runs 3 blade? I just find it odd that we all have different flying locations and styles and yet EVERYONE settled on the 3 blades!? Is it because that's what the Pro's use because 3 blade is faster?
If it wasn't for that post on here about the HQ 4 blade being a quiet prop I never would have even tried them, and would still be running only 3-blade because that's what everyone else does.
I'm not saying they are perfect for EVERYONE, I'm just saying they seem perfect for ME, and it is strange that I don't see at least SOME other people using something other than 3. If you have not at least tried some 4-blade props, give them a try. If you are a very fast flyer they might not be for you, but I can't be the only one that loves these things.
Yes I know they have some downsides. Slightly less efficient, more Amps, a little slower than the usual light-weight tri-blades. But as I said, I still get great flight times out of them, I like the smooth slow speed control, and my favorite part: I love how much quieter they are. I'll let you know about the GemFans in a few days.
Anyone else on here run any props other than Tri-Blades on a 5"? I'm looking for other suggestions of a quiet prop for park / light freestyle/ flow type flying.
