1800kv on 4S
#1
Hey there, i did build a 5" with the Wrong Motors.

Roma F5 frame 4S with 2207 1800Kv Xing Motors.
after some tuning effort, it does fly rather well .. I kinda love it ..

so I purchased a BNF Roma F5 V2 .. which does come with 2306.5 2450Kv Motors ..
on Stock tune those motors do get rather hot, the flight time is about the same.

sure 2450 are a lot more "punchy" .. but generally under normal flying conditions, I do not notice any difference in-flight characteristics.
(only if I do punchy stuff like power looping or other things)

but like I wrote before even on a "normal flight" the 2450 motors do get pretty hot.

so if one not really need the punchy-ness isn;t it generally speaking better to use lower KV Motors ? or do I miss anything?

If you don't see anything different, then lower kv is fine. With lower kv, you can use 6S and get the punch you need.

The only thing I would say about lower kv on 4S, emergency recovery might not be there. Meaning you don't have the punch to recovery from a poor executed trick.

Yeah well umm yeah. I used to be of the school get the highest kv motors you can and push the limits with 5s or even 6s and then I chucked on my basher quad some Emax Eco II 2306 1900kv motors and my whole outlook on motor kv changed.

Basically mow I have a quad that can run a 4s, 5s, 6s battery and all I find is I have to use more throttle on 4s or 5s. If I want it to fly like I stole it I put on a 6s battery Smile

Another thing I find is they can take more abuse. Guess as they have thicker windings and less of them and also I can depending on how I fly get some really long flight times out of them.

So yeah lower kv motors in my world are a winner

You have that backwards. High KV motors have fewer windings than lower KV motors Smile

I agree with V-22. High kv is thicker wire to carry higher amp and lower voltage. Lower kv has thinner wire for higher voltage but lower amperage.

oh yes that is true, when the batteries are saggy .. (I have some really cheap 4S Batteries .. when they go below 15 volts, I can JUST forget about rescue Manoevers that require some horsepower Wink )
but I am aware of that, so its just fine, what I like is that the motors almost NEVER get hot.

i managed some temperature once when I crashed and flew back with just 2 blades on one prop. that caused massive vibrations and that motor was slightly warmer.
but besides that, I really never had any temperature issues. and it fly just as fine (like i said, no flippy floppy) Smile
