1002 motors and 2015 biblades props
#1
Thumbs Up
Anyone else flying this combo? How do you like it?

On a 2S sub 40g setup with 15500kv motors, the flying is extremely locked and feels more like a larger micro on 3S with triblades. And it does this without killing the battery nor does it feel like its over propped. One minor quibble is the props are pressed fit, so spares are essential.

Happymodel also has some less expensive 1002s, but they are 1S only. Wonder how well they will handle the 2" props?

Looks sweet. What frame does it use?

I haven't even fully contemplated my 1002 build. I have the 1-2S 14000kv RCinPower motors. My original plan was to put them on a NanoFly16 frame with one the BetaFPV 12A FC, but I haven't got around to it yet. Until I manage to square away my soldering issues, it's a bit of a non-starter.

Its a GnarlyFPV frame, too bad they don't sell it anymore it is really a tidy package. Those RCinpower are pretty motors, too bad I get sticker shock when I see them though. If I didn't get these motors on a discounted BNF, probably never would have tried them and seriously missed out.
I am running the older BetafPV 12A 1-2S, and with the open canopy that shoddy ELRS wire antenna is actually doing ok in this build. I think you will have lots of fun with it.

Here is some dvr footage, the HD render should be up shortly.

I haven't decided which BetaFPV FC I'll use yet. I have a couple of the older v2 SPI ELRS with the IPEX/dipole combo and I kind of like how they fly and from flying the Meteor85 for a year or so now, I understand the quirks of the platform. But I also have a couple of the newer Serial ELRS as well with the red whip antennas that people don't seem to like. I recently asked BetaFPV to start making a version of the 12A that can take the dipole, as I prefer the antenna to be separate. Whether they will is unknown.

But for that build I will probably go with what I know.

Regarding the motors it's funny. I've been sat on these 1002's since they released last summer. I was watching a Nick Burns video on them about a week after they were released and noticed one of the UK shops had them in, so grabbed a set. They have sat in my parts box ever since. I am technically not limited to just the NanoFly16 frame, I could use a 2" Twiglet frame as well, but kind of want a smaller quad than my Flea 2.0. The Meteor85 is a similar size, not too big, not too small and flies well on 2S.

Anyway, Your video looks good. Do you have a lot of wifi in your area? Those horizontal bands, I get on mine when I'm flying in my area, but don't when i'm out in the middle of nowhere. I always put them down to wifi (all power leads I use have a cap so unlikely dirty power). I get them less nowadays while using R8, but in the past, it was an issue.

I also prefer the ufl version, and would think its probably cheaper for them to make it with the ufl as it can be soldered on automatically, that flimsy wire I suspect requires additional manual soldering. Most of the time I end up replacing the wire, you can solder on a different antenna, not sure if Betafpv is going to offer a choice. As for the video static/bands, some of it is wifi, but I think most of it is just flying behind trees or the house. I stand on my back porch, which has some large trees looming over it, and then when I go to the front of the house I cross lines with the wifi router, so not the best layout.

If you do build it for 2", I would say make sure it is a light frame and stay close to 35g. These motors came on the Flywoo Nano 20 WS and it was close to 45g out of the box. Too heavy in my opinion, I did not enjoy flying it at that weight (swapped in some 1102 motors and also swapped in the Lite VTX/Camera so it flies better, but still not as nice as this setup). Otherwise if you have the 1.6" frame, it should fly nice too I imagine just shorter flight times.

If they ever restock them, I would love to try them on the NanoFly20 frame, maybe with Azure 2035 props and a 80-90% motor limit. I just wonder if 2035 props are too aggressive for that sort of build. I personally prefer tri blade to bi blade, but have both in the box so trying both isn't an issue.

I actually just purchased the Happymodel EX1002 20,000kv motors for a 1s 2" quad I'm building. I'll let you know what I think of them when they arrive. Going on a small toothpick frame that'll use 2" props. Should be fun!

Will that be your pixie frame? Do let us know how it flies, looking forward to it.

Yep it's going on the Pixie. I plan on trying the latest Betafpv AIO board that has the beefy 5v reg for hd vtx's. Planning on a WS 1s vtx on it.

The 2015 props are excellent and pair well with the 1002. They definitely deliver a better than expected thrust to weight ratio.

Quadd66, if you ever have time to be board and wanna try these:

hglrc specter 1003 10000kv - on 2S
https://www.hglrc.com/products/specter-1...less-motor

...using higher pitch 2023 or 2035 or 2040 hulkie props? That +/or on a porkier 2"er build?  Cool

Ah those look interesting. I’ve been meaning to try 1003 but was put off by the awkward hybrid base on the RCinpower.

Alright just got this little guy built with the 1002 motors with the 2015 props and it flies great! Still tuning the last 10% out of this quad but so far I'm pretty happy with overall power and flight time. With a 450mah 1s battery, I'm at 50 grams even AUW. Little heavier than average since it's running a Walksnail HD system in it. No lack of power even at that weight!

I did this yesterday and I'm so happy I did! It lets me tear around my house without worrying that I'll screw up and cause property damage. Tons of power, lots of speed, and it runs 4-5 minutes on 525mAh 2S packs. Kinda enjoying how loud the little sucker is! Not like my neighbors can cry about it since there's always some other guy running a shop vac in his garage. If it weren't freezing outside, I'd probably be at the park right now brushing off the rust on my tricks.
