I've played in simulators for a little bit and I'm ready to get my hands dirty. Ya'll have taught me not to go get a 6s drone, so I'm looking into a micro/tiny whoop. - For $250 or less, what would you recommend
- I have a taranis Qx7 currently
- I'm considering a tinyhawk 2, mobulus 7, trashcan - if there are others I should look into please comment
- I want to practice/learn acro mode in real space, I plan to fly inside 25% of the time, and outside about 75%
- cinematography and fun flying are my end goals --- I love the acro scenic videos --hope I get there in the next year or two
Thank you for your help !! All these comparison videos on youtube have me confused as to what most would recommend • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 You are probably looking for a sub 85mm quad that can handle 2-3S and maybe even 4S. The reason for the range, you can fly indoor with 2S and open space with 3-4S. In addition, it has prop guards, which is important for indoor. Although I don't have one, the new Betafpv 85 4S seems to be a good fit for what you are doing. Depending on what versions (only camera is different), you can get it for as little as $160 with receiver. I Would say larva X with crossfire for outside and i like the uk/us65 for indoors also Mobula 6 You could get two for that money. Youtube A Mistake is only a Mistake if you refuse to correct your error. Is 4s too much for a first time flyer or would you say with care it should be fine? THANK YOU for your response, as it helps a lot no, it would not change my recommendation. you going to fly these little quad long distance. if you really want, you can always add a R9MM receiver if you want to use R9. But you can buy these quad with Crossfire. Maybe it is time to ebay a Crossfire. Dumb question - that is the module my Taranis Qx7 came with (only the R9M module). Can I use it as is with regular FRSKY or do I need to buy an additional module to work with FRSKY drones? (apologies again as I'd guess it might not work without that R9 receiver, but maybe it does) • Posts: 51 Threads: 12 Likes Received: 23 in 12 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Nov 2019 Reputation: 0 30-Jan-2020, 09:36 PM (This post was last modified: 30-Jan-2020, 09:39 PM by senatorperkins.) QX7 has its own D16 FRSKY internal module so it'll work with XM/XM+/XMR/R-XSR receivers. Just need to bind with the internal module selected in D16 mode. Which ones are you considering? I have been thinking that one of the BetaFPV 85's with glow in the dark frame and HD cam would be a good choice. The ones you list are light enough that 3S will be fast. You can always scale your throttle if you want to cool 4S performance. I do this on my "efficiency builds". I'm honestly unsure. I'm thinking about the Beta 85, but I'm wondering for my first build if I should get something cheaper till I've really learned to fly (in the 100-150 USD range). • Posts: 6,113 Threads: 172 Likes Received: 2,287 in 1,834 posts Likes Given: 4,737 Joined: Feb 2019 Reputation: 100 cheaper flys different ;-) all suggestions i saw will be a pleasure.. another whoop https://www.rcdronesky.com/geelang-anger...cing-drone • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (31-Jan-2020, 02:46 AM)BigBeard Wrote: 1. If you are going with whoop or smaller quad, they trend to come pre-built. Building these smaller quad can cost just as much or more than pre-built. If you want to actually build a quad, start with a larger quad. It is easier to build. If you want to actually build a quad, start with a larger quad. It is easier to build. This is truth! I have built Whoops back when they were "tiny" and could have easily purchased a prebuilt like Eachine E010S+a 5 pack of lipos for what it cost for just the quad...but flying with my PURPLE MOTORS, I mean that was so worth it! My first outright build was a 5" and I still have it in the garage. Lots of space made getting everything together easy. Once I started into building Micro class racers, the lack of space was obvious. Consider the 4" frames for an inexpensive built. Big enough frame for easier building and lighter so smaller packs which tend to be less expensive then ones you would consider for 5" craft. https://geprc.com/product/dolphin-toothp...one-4inch/ Options like this prebuilt would be good for starting and can be had for under $175. https://intofpv.com/t-the-era-of-4inch-m...odel-i-saw Really, building these things does not save any money, sort of like computers these days. What building lets you do is tailor your equipment to how you want your craft to perform, but I cannot think of a single quad I have built that was less expensive than a BNF or PNP. I feel that I likely would have progressed quicker in my flight skills if I did not have to focus on building, but just repairing at first. There is no right answer really. As you said indoors I would buy a whoop style quad mainly because you can bump into things and not crash. They normally just bounce off. As it is your first quad buy something cheap and slow where you can get spares easily. The trashcan or something like that would be perfect as you can run it on 1s. When you get a bit better just plug in the extra battery to make it 2s. This is my little guy on 2s |
