Vista image freezing mid-air randomly
#1
Today I went to fly a pack and maybe 30 seconds into the flight The video froze up.  Only after I came crashing down did it come back.  Everything seemed fine so I sent it again and two minutes later it froze again and didn't come back (red light on the vista) until I unplugged and re-plugged.

I'm a little nervous to fly it again, the crashes broke the screen protector on my gopro so I'm very skittish.

I have noticed that the camera cable plug attaching to the vista seems to pop half-loose at times - I've made sure the brace holding it in is snug but it the camera plug just doesn't seem to want to stay put.  I ordered a new camera cable just to be safe but is there another reason this could be happening? Should I just solder directly to the power leads? This is the same FC where the TX and GND somehow got shorted together so I'm also worried the FC is on its way out.

The camera cable is usually the first suspect. If a replacement cable doesn't fix the issue then inspect the MIPI sockets on both the camera and Vista with a magnifying glass for any damage. After that, check the antenna and U.FL connector for any damage, then the last resort is to re-flash the latest firmware to the Vista and the goggles. If you have the V2 goggles then also make sure you have the latest firmware flashed onto them for the DJI FPV Drone even if you don't use that firmware mode because some of the firmware libraries are shared between the standalone FPV System firmware and the DJI FPV Drone firmware.

Thank you as always, Snow. Will try the cable when it arrives tomorrow. It's worked fine all year and today is the first time it started doing this so I will attack that first.

If you can see the camera cable coming loose then it is probably that.

As SnowLeopard said I would also check the antenna. I once had a problem with my bitrate dropping suddenly (and randomly) and giving me frozen frames. Turned out the antenna was broken on the inside (after a crash), but looked perfect on the outside. I only noticed it after I shook the quad and could hear a rattle coming from the antenna.

After getting a new antenna I popped the old one open and sure enough the top half of the spiral element was broken off and rattling around inside the plastic housing, causing the random and sudden stuttering problems of the video.

Good idea, I will check that tonight, thank you.  It doesn't appear damaged as I made a mount for it that covers the antenna 90% with just the top 1/5th exposed and it is lodged in there super snugly but never thought the internals would still be affected.

Well, the Vista antenna is definitely rattling around inside. Going to replace it and try again tomorrow. Thanks again!

EDIT: Flew hard without incident! YESSSSSS
