Video signal very weak - want to boost up power on VTX in BF
#1
Hello again! I think this will be my last post in a while here since you guys helped me configure my drone perfectly. There is however one more thing.

After I have set up the transmitter correctly and I now got a badass signal with the TBS Crossfire, it seems I am still limited by my video signal. I have watched all the tutorials concerning this and I already did „the hack” in which I have both my Air Unit and my Goggles in FCC mode, as Oscar instructed in one of the posts. I can see 8 channels and I can change the power in my DJI Goggles v2, but the video signal is still lost after 300m in a straight line, with no obstacles.

I think I have to increase the power range in BF in the VTX menu, but J.Bardwell says I have to activate the correct UART port first for the VTX and I can't find anywhere on which port it is soldered on the C. Vista Nano Nebula. I have an iFlight Protek 35 HD ordered from Bangood.

Needless to say, I am once again in a bit of a rush, since I'm travelling this weekend and want to submit something nice for the GoPro challenge. I would very much appreciate if you can point me in the right direction.

"I think I have to increase the power range in BF in the VTX menu": This only applies to analog vtx's that support SmartAudio.

The iFlight Protek 35 HD should have come properly setup for the Vista and the correct MSP settings for the UART it was soldered to.

Did you make any changes?

Your Vista maybe stuck in low power mode.

Can you take a picture of your FC?

Could the antenna on the Vista be damaged? Do you have a replacement you can swap in?

Edit: Sorry, I see you have the air unit. Make sure both antennas are seated properly and not loose.

I made a few changes, but not physical ones. And none of the BF changes I made included anything regarding the vtx. I'm quite new to this and still have a long way to go, but thanks to Snow Leopard around here and a ton of JB's tutorials, I managed to troubleshoot a lot of issues. I suspect the vista is stuck too in low power mode, but how can I check that? I copied the naco.txt file for the FCC unlock and after that and the same for the goggles, I can setup the power in my goggles and I thought I couldn't do that if the vista was stuck in low power mode. I will post a dump here shortly, maybe the answer is there.

Both antennas? My drone came only with one antenna. And I saw yesterday a video on YT and asked the guy about the 2 antennas and he told me he uses the DJI Digital FPV system and that's why it has two... question is... Why do I have one?

Sure, I already had the googles before and ordered the drone with a TBS Crossfire preinstalled, but I didn't know I had to specify somewhere on bangood that I will use it with DJI Goggles.

The DJI Air Unit has two MMCX antennas, the Caddx Vista has one u.fl antenna. It sounds like you have the Vista, which goes into low power mode until it receives an arm signal from the FC. For this to work, you need the Vista RX and TX pads connected to the TX and RX pads of an open UART on your FC, and have that port set to "MSP" in the Betaflight ports tab.

Can you take a picture of your FC that clearly shows the Vista wiring, and post the output of a CLI dump?

Attached the CLI dump here. Cannot take apart the drone right now and I must admit that I'm not confortable to do that on my own without watching a full tutorial first and I haven't got the time right also.

What I did earlier in CLI was set vtx_power = 7 and after that set vtx_low_power_disarm = UNTIL_FIRST_ARM for all the reasons we all know... and now when I type get vtx_power it says 0. Before it said 1. It's 0 because of the low power disarm?

Those vtx commands are for an analog VTX, not the Caddx Vista digital system.

If you can fly out 300m then I don't think it is in low power mode. I would try a different channel. There might be interference on the channel you are using in that area.

Or check the antenna to make sure it isn't broken from a crash.
