Tyro79 Cinewhoop Conversion
#1
Hey Guys!

So I've got a Tyro79 lying around that I don't really use... And I want a Cinewhoop....
I think the tyro79 is a pretty sweet candidate for a cinewhoop actually, and I've seen people put the components into the donut frame, but i think this is a waste especially when I have 3D printers at hand. Now I found this model for cinewhoop style propguards for the tyro frame, but I'm not a fan:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3819551

The plan is to ditch all of the frame except for the base plate, and 3d print 4x propguards and a mid section all in one piece to work as ducts and a sort of mini-pod for the centre that will mount the FPV cam and a Gopro Hero 7. I'm not sure if I will mount the gopro straight off of this piece which will likely be PLA or if I will make a mounting option that I can attach a TPU gopro mount too.

I will start working on the CAD model this week and update you guys with my progress. Is there any interest in this?

Cheers,

would be nice to see your progress.
i would be very intressted in a comparison about efficiency-flytime between ducts and unducted.

Unfortnately I haven't had time, but this week may be the week since I'm doing a 3D printing market stall for my business and this will be something cool to show off.

Now you've got me wanting to be scientific and do before testing... Although I Doubt you'd gain flight time lol..

Wouldnt you want to shift the cam forwards somehow, otherwise 2 thirds of your FPV view would be blocked by prop guards?

I'd also suggest the non-ducted section of the frame be a perforated mesh style design to reduce the weight and increase cooling air flow if at all possible. Just some thoughts. I'm curious to see what you come up with.

Ok some progress here.

I had a few minutes tonight so I drafted up the ducts, If i get time tomorrow I'll work on the mid section, mounting and tying the ducts together.

I went with a teardrop/aerofoil duct design that is relatively straight on the inside but has a sharp chamfer on the outside. This should create negative pressure on the outside of the ducts during speedy flight and possibly help with airflow. Let me know what you think.

Unfortunately it's sitting in my pile of projects still, higher priority things have come up.

On the plus side it's getting near the top of the pile and the month of may will probably see progress and maybe a first prototype.
