Tips on how craft your letter to the FAA on Remote ID
#1
I know we already have several treads on this topic.  But I didn't want these tips to get buried in one of the other threads.  The tips are good suggestions for those inclined to provide feedback.

Thanks for doing this Krohsis. I think we should all contribute to a strongly crafted response, and send it to everyone, not just the FAA. This NPRM needs to be vehemently resisted, but with a very well thought out cohesive argument.

Wouldn't hurt to send responses to "the media". Would be nice if some of them published articles or something in favor of the hobby.

I am most definitely writing letters...but with little hope that a letter will make any difference at all. Craft away, but as I have been saying for a while...our hobby as it is now is in the way and WILL be removed.

https://www.cnbc.com/video/2019/10/01/wa...abney.html

We either become worth billions or the hobby as it is now will be quashed so that mega corps can have the airspace.

My hope is that they make the transponder system rules that will be used in the transport and commerce sector blanketed over all of us. That way we can develop our own system and fly as they do without all the silly LOS rules and such. A drone will be a drone and as long as it complies, it should have the same regs and rights.

If need be, we start a messaging service that makes deliveries and we operate under a small umbrella corp. The truth is, money is going to win this hands down.

This is a great idea. I would cc particularly your local media outlets as well as the syndicated news. They will not read your letter. Your letter is not news worthy. But a deluge of letters just might be.

I used to be an active member of Amnesty Intl (AI local group #2 in NYC lol no joke) and if you know AI, you know letter campaigns are it's primary means of mobilization. After a while I got very tired of writing letters and started to think these old folks got nuthin better to do this is useless. Then I got a response. From the government of a former Soviet satellite state addressed directly to me regarding my concerns of the beating of a minority teenager in a subway. These letters do work. Not in a moonshot big bang kinda way. But in a slow but consistent build up kind of way.

For the right news outlet, I have a few headlines they can use.  Something along the lines of "FAA is taking toy airplanes from children", or "FAA takes toys away", "Model Airplanes to become illegal", "Mom, don't let the FAA take my model airplane away",  etc.

Bruce makes some good suggestions in this video.

If you don't have time to watch this video, be sure to educate yourself on the proposed ruling and take some time to craft a letter that will be factual, professional and substantive.  Also be sure to create workable links to your fact sources and evidence.  Finally try to be concise.  If you wax on for pages and pages your comments will meet the  Poop can at the FAA.

Shoot for a page and include references on the back. "If they cannot scan it, they will can it." Wise words from my recruiter friend! They are going to get inundated for the number of staff assigned to reading our letters, count on it. They just need to have something physical to understand that each represents someone who will be adversely affected for a false claim of safety.
